I’ve attached 2 pictures of our back porch. This is an older house and we are getting ready to paint. I always like to repair any wood rot prior to the painter as I know it will be done right.
I replaced a 4x4 post in another section but it wasn’t sized to the store bought 4x4 so I had to plane it down for it to fit. Thank goodness for my planer!
The one pictured is my next victim. Like the other one it isn’t dimensioned like a store bought 4x6. My original plan was to buy a steel post bracket and cut out the little bit of rot and set it back on the bracket. But because it is bigger than to bracket that is off the table.
I’ve also thought about digging out the little bit of rot and using some epoxy wood repair and the paint it used good to seal it.
What do you guys suggest?
