Hi. I've been a lurker for a while on this site. Most of which has taken place in the tools section. I'm preparing to hire someone to re-do the lighting in my garage and I'm looking for some assistance with layout and a materials list. I have a 20'x22', with 10' to 10.5' ceilings. I've included some current pictures of my garage. I basically have 2 overhead light bulbs and the 2 bulbs that are in the garage doors. I'm looking to significantly increase the lighting output in the garage and have told myself my budget for doing so is ~$1k. Any and all help is appreciated!

I see an attic access hole so I assume you can get up in the attic space to add some additional ceiling boxes. If so, I'd extend power from the existing ceiling boxes to some new ceiling boxes and install surface mount T8 strip fixtures. Without knowing the details of your existing light circuit it's hard to say what can be done.

Yes, the attic is accessible. I have 100amp service at the house with a few available breakers in the box. How would I go about finding the out details of my existing circuit? Thanks for the help on the T8 fixtures.

T8 strips are relatively inexpensive and pretty efficient. In a 20x20 space, you should only need about 8 or so. That's well short of your budget of $1000. If you want to get fancy, you can get LED strips or wrap fixtures. There's some really good ones out there.

Update...

I purchased 6 lithonia t8 strip lights. They are 8' tandem 4 lamp units. They are the standard units, good to 0*F. I also bought 3 boxes of the Phillips "Daylight Deluxe" 32w T8 bulbs. Everything is getting installed tomorrow. I am doing 3 units over each "stall", front middle and rear. I hope it lights up the garage well. Total spent was ~$350. I've got an "electrician" coming over tomorrow to wire everything up. He said it should be a days worth of work and his fee is $25/hr.
