Need some help

Good morning all:I need help with getting the specs incorporated or transferred into some sort of program that I can then print the templates and then cut the mild steel sheet metal as per the templates. Basically, there are three sections to the pipe that needs to be generated so that I can print them out as templates and then cut the mild steel as per the template print out.

For a one off, I'm thinking a trip to Hobby Lobby for some heavy cardstock so you can mock up what you need might be quicker and easier than trying to teach yourself how to operate CAD software.

True, but learning CAD is a skill he can use the rest of his life.

When I saw the title of the thread 'need some help,' and your screen name, I knew it would be something I'd be interested in reading.

shawnspeed sounds like he has 'the ticket' for you. Probably quicker, easier, and cheaper to use some ready-made stock configurations, and cut/weld them into your needed lengths.

I have a line on two RZ350's, one is original owner, he was working at a Yamaha dealer when he bought it. Both are owned by the same guy. The other has an R1 front end. I have other projects of the tuning-fork two-wheeled vintage type right-now, and I doubt the bikes are going anywhere soon. If I could get through the queue of stuff to-do I have planned currently, I'd be more-motivated to pick them up.

It sounds to me like you are looking for a sheet metal program that allows you to lay things out and do an "unfold" to get your flat blank. We used to have an add-on program for Smart-Cam, but I've been out of that for years.

Try this for cone patterns that you can print. Or, you can do it old school and lay them out on poster board like we used to do for header collectors and megaphones.

That blocklayer link IMSA GTO posted will get you there. Make a cone that is the length of your long/bottom edge, cut and roll the sheet, then trim to fit to achieve your 25 degree angle.

Need more info, the dimensions highlighted in the image attached, and whether they are all inline like shown in the side view. Also Material thickness.

Resulting flat pattern for the cone would look something like this.

Before you proceed too far and find out you've wasted your time, you might want to find someone who can roll these cones once the blanks are cut, that is, unless you have your own rolls that are capable of rolling the small end diameters. Few, if any, shops will have rolls capable of these small diameters, particularly when the material is 20 ga. The individual rolls are too large.

It would be far simpler to hydroform the expansion chamber in one piece and that seems to be the way most people do them on a diy basis. Google it and you'll find extensive information and multiple videos showing how its done.

I sent you the flat patterns for the center and long side. I was having a little trouble flattening the shorter one. I'll give it another try tomorrow.

Here are the PDF files, you should be able to print them off 1:1 and trace them onto your steel. The drawing and center section are on B size sheets, the 2 end pieces were too big, so I put them on the same C size sheet.
