Need some ideas based on constraints

My son recently got married and moved into new apartment. It’s a rental from the owner. We took my in-laws over for dinner and to see the place.

The area where they placed their dining table (used for all meals) does not have electric over the table. And it’s dark.

I need a neat - minimally damaging idea for getting some light over the table.

Is there a battery solution with lasting power ? They prefer a wall mounted switch over an app.

Thanks

Ask the owner / landlord? Maybe they would be ok with adding a ceiling fixture box above the table with a pendant light.

Half *** it: A couple of drywall anchors to support hanging the light fixture of their choice. Run an extension cord over to and down the wall. Patch and paint the ceiling before moving out.

Quarter *** it: 2” hole saw, make an umbrella hole in the table top. Remove the fabric from a patio umbrella. LED rope light and some zip ties.

A swag lamp comes to mind, but you will have to drill holes for toggle bolts.
I used a swag lamp in an apartment. I used eyebolts and went straight into the studs in the ceiling. Only had to fill the holes from the bolts when I left. Used white silicone to fill the holes.

Personally, I'd use floor standing lamps. I'd stick one in each corner and use corner lighting to light the room. One in the corner by the desk on the right and one in the corner by the cabinet on the left would light up that area pretty well.

Use smart bulbs and let Alexa control them on/off and brightness.

Bigger computer monitor and then load a bright background image as the light source. It's not the best for impressing guests...but it works!

I'd go with the swag option. Modern LED's are light enough that a single screw/eyehook into a stud is more then capable to holding it, could run the power cord either way to the wall on left or right but the left(opposite computer) looks to be easier to get to a wall mounted switch. to make it a bit more discrete could run the power cord in the white plastic adhesive backed raceway....do it well enough and they probably won't mind if it stays upon move out.

Lot of options that may work with existing furniture here:

I rent an apartment and have a swag lamp over my bed for reading that is heavy. It's hung by swag hook with the supplied screw/stud screwed into the ceiling joist. The hole is so tiny that I won't need to fill it when I move out. Luckily it's controlled by a wall switch.
