This is a great site and I will love my time spent here. Like you, I enjoy seeing other shops and garages. I will be building a large shop in the near future. It will be used for auto restoration as well as storage of completed cars. I enjoy vintage things, buildings as well. I would like my building to look like a barn, old barn, old vehicle garage etc. Basically, the first garages were building that could have been for horses. I like the look of old service stations too, but the real clean perfect looking stations aren't for me :) This shop will be a real working place and I won't be able to keep it clean enough. I have seen some great places here on the site, but I have to be realistic for me. I have done some designs. I am leaning towards a monitor style building. I have even made a model which I will photograph and post soon for you to see. I believe for what I need, a 56 X 64 building is what I will build. I want a large barn door at the front middle and 2 roll-ups at each end of the front. Before I start spec-ing materials, I'm looking for ideas and plans of other similar buildings. If you know of pics or blueprints/plans, I'd love to see what you have. The property the building is going on is in building stage right now. I am building an apartment on top of an existing "small" garage that was there when I bought it. Take a look :) Its not completed as of yet, but I have done a lot so far. I can't wait for the next building . . give me ideas. Thanks and I'm glad to have found you !

I think you would need posts with a monitor that size. I don't think that would have to be a problem though.

If you have not already done so, Might I suggest checking out our Monitor Barn shown here on the forum. 70 yr old couple building a barn. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51837
Or on our web site www.ninetyninesigns.com .
The size is about half what you mentioned but this type of barn builds by bay size and repeating. Hope it will give you some ideas. Whatever make sure it works on paper before you start.

I like the design as well. As things progress, I will add some "vintage" look to the place. I'd like the exterior to look more like an old garage/barn. I'd even like a worn looking painted sign on the side perhaps. Then some automobilia on the outside . . time will tell. I still need to build a house on this property :)
