hey guys i m wanting to hook up an air compressor in my garage,i have 220 going in .the motor is 3/4 hp (3 phase)and i want to wire it ,but am unsure if a 30 amp dbl pull would be fitting.please help me out

if its three phase you need a phase converter, but are probably better off replacing the motor with a single phase one

Would be pretty rare to find a compressor with a three phase motor as small as 3/4 hp, unless it was a specialty unit such as a Dental compressor or an HVAC pneumatic power unit.

Are you sure its three phase? Pic of the motor data plate would be good.

yes actually it was from a condemned HVAC pneumatic system.i guess i could start looking for another motor,what would you recommend for running a good amount of pneumatic tools?i ve just built my garage and i plan on rebuilding a 52 willy's pick up,which will require die grinders, impacts and so on

What about having the motor re-wound locally? Could that be done for less money than buying another single phase motor?

3 phase will not work on single phase without a converter, as said above. 220v is not 2 phase either, it is single phase. A 3 phase motor cannot be rewound for single phase operation. A 3/4hp compressor is not going to be suitable for running grinders or other air hogs. I really think you need to look into starting over with a compressor more suited to your needs. That said if this is a belt drive compressor then replace the motor with a single phase of the same specs as the 3-phase motor and give it a try. It will work forsome of the jobs you listed as long as it will pump up to the 125 psi you may need. I say that because I'm not sure if hvac compressors run at lower pressures. I also don't know if hvac compressors have the duty cycle needed. Some one more familier with hvac stuff can chime in.

it is belt driven ,my dad said he has a electric motors in his garage i will check back when i have some more info
