So I just won a proto socket set on ebay for $45+shipping. Totaled like $53 and change. Anyways I made my payment, but then when I got to the 3rd screen, confirmation, it went blank. So I assumed that the payment didn't go through. So rather than waiting a few and checking my paypal overview, I just went ahead and retried. Well anyways, I ended up paying the seller twice. Sure enough, go into paypal overview, shows 2 payments. I messaged the seller, informing him of my mistake. So my questions to you are:

1. How can this be fixed? Will it be up to the seller to just make a payment back to me for the same amount or is there a way he can just cancel the 2nd payment?

2. If he refuses to pay me back saying he didn't get it, how can I take action from their?

I feel stupid. If anyone can chime in on this, I'd appreciate it. If you want to make fun of me, that's ok too. I am sure I would.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. Just send a message to PayPal and tell them what you did and I expect they'll reverse the charges. Don't torture yourself over $50, it's super easy to do a thing like that on the web with any kind of credit card thing.

$45 socket? Must be for one of those cats you work on?

No, not one socket, its a 22 pc. 3/8" std set. Goes for $190 on j&l industrial/msc. So even if I lost the extra $50, I'd still have saved $90. But I don't want to lose that $50 when I won it fair and square for $50 in the first place.

First option just message the seller and they should be able to either refuse or refund the payment. Do NOT have them send you a payment as that will include a charge from paypal and refusing or refunding has no fee.

If for some reason that doesn't happen in a week or so, then start something with paypal.

I had that very thing happen the first time I used Paypal years ago. The seller took care of it from their end and there was no charge to either of us.

Couldn't have said it better. At least you're an honest guy....

Yeah, I got a message from both the seller and paypal. Paypal said to use the refund option and it will take care of everything without and fees to either of us. The seller said this has happened to him recently with another buyer! and that he will take care of it. So sounds like he is pretty honest and upstanding seller, unlike the one Blacknwhitepit had to deal with. I am feeling better now. Just thought paypal would have some sort of safegaurd against paying on the same ebay item more than once.:headscrat

Sounds like this will end well.

My experience, though, has been that most tool buying/selling folks are regular people who value things like honesty and loyalty.
