I have a 1" PEX cold water feed into my garage. I'm going to hook it up to a garden hose for washing vehicles etc. My options here are pretty wide open so I'm looking for some suggestions/ideas on how I should do it. My preference is a neat/clean install without taking up a bunch of space.

Wall mounted hose reel? Just plumb to a wall mounted hose bib and hang the hose on a hook?

The garage is fully finished (drywall and paint).

Thanks in advance

You don't have location listed so we don't know if freezing is a problem. Normally you would use a freeze proof outdoor faucet and then you are protected.

I'm in Michigan but the garage is heated so freezing isn't a concern. I also have a drain in the basement of the house to empty the entire line in case I ever want to shut off the garage heat during the winter.

Joe,

I am also in MI and my house has had a garage faucet since I bought it, never ended up freezing then eve....anyways, I am finishing my garage now and plan to make it more functional/visually pleasing as you. I will try to find the pic on here but someone did it with a washer machine insert that recesses the hose bib in the wall, looked slick. Also I plan to use a reelcraft type hose reel so it can auto recoil. I see them locally here on Clist every once and while so check that out.

I am going to do this as well when I begin finishing my basement in January. the first 3' of wall in the garage is the last 3' in the basement so running a line shouldn't be too difficult. My next closest hose bib is on the other side of the house so stretching out 50' of hose to wash a car is annoying at best.

Best of luck; I am interested in what you end up doing.

I would also put in the recessed panel for water. The thing with the recessed panels is that there is a drain in them. This is for a washer drain, but also for the fact that if the hose connection leak, it will drain into the drain. If you don't have it hooked up, and one of the faucets leak, this would let water run down into the wall. What you can do though is route the drain down and back out to the floor just for additional safety.

As far as a hose reel, get a custom automotive wheel and use it to wrap the hose on.
