need some really good knee pads

I have used a set of Menard's Irwin gel. They have worked great, but I don't use them all day everyday. But I have used them for most of the workday for days at a time. Now if only I could figure out how to make my knees and legs not ache from working hmmmm?

Nothing wrong with the user name "gofastman," but I don't believe I would have started a thread about kneepads. I think I would have kept it locked up in the vault with the other stuff I wonder about, but am afraid to ask. Unless you were a woman, then we got us a great thread.

Don't buy any from Harbor Freight, I have heard from other posts that they will give off a foul odor.

I would ask a concrete finisher, they use kneepads on a regular basis. I don't even tease them about it, because I borrowed a pair from them once. I was torching a couple hundred rebar holes in steel forms, I was crawling around on crushed stone.

I have those (Snickers brand) And they're really worth getting. You don't notice them and they're very comfortable.

A buddy of mine who is a flooring installer uses a style that look like shin gaurds. They are very comfy, but will set you back some good $$$. Your knees are worth it though.

This may sound a little odd. But look at Rector skateboard knee pads. They are comfortable, have a plastic knee cap and are only around $20.

I use my old set (from the 1980's) and they are great when you will be doing a lot of ground work.

I use Kunnys leather ones. Theyre a single leather strap with a "belt buckle" style close, so their easy on, plus its attached so no losing the straps.

Theyre pretty tough, leather with rivited construction. Plus theyre made right here in Canada

i have an old pair of DBS (dr bone savers) skateboard/inline knee pads. velcro straps or slip on. i spend a lot of time kneeling down, usually on gravel or on tracks. i keep them stuffed beside my toolbox in my service truck, they're large enough to even just lay down and kneel on.
my knees are beat all to hell, 25 years as a heavy equipment tech, way too many years playing baseball, football and hockey, plus a couple of hard crashes when i was racing. i'm paying for it now in my old age

mechanix wear brand is good stuff, i (we) used their gloves, knee pads, radio belts and shoes when i was doing some off road racing. one of the reasons pro pit crew use the stuff is they are sponsors for many racing organizations.
all the decals you see on race cars are there for a reason, contingency payouts.
for example in the series we raced in, we had to purchase at least one pair of gloves, and show proof of purchase to the contingency coordinator we were then given 2 mechanix wear stickers to place on our vehicle.
mechanix wear paid $25 to each class winner that was sporting their decals. if we had enough contingency sponsors, and won a race, that amount of money would almost pay for the race fuel used that weekend.

ok those machanix and the ones in the original post have those cups on them. you don't want those. you will be trying to balance on the little surface area that contacts the floor. yuck.
get these kind. they are rebuildable and cheap. i am a flooring installer i wear these everyday. i just use the lower strap and remove the top strap. i have a pair in my garage and my buddy's garage too.
