Need some silica desiccant packs

I am looking for fifty (50) of the silica packs that are usually included inside anything electronic. If anyone has a source (I've looked but all I can find on-line is five gallon buckets of them) I'd appreciate hearing from you.

I save all of mine out of medicine bottles. I have never tried it but am told that you can put them into the oven to "refresh" them for reuse.

Yep, should be able to "re-charge" in the oven by drying them out. Griot's sells big bags for interiors on stored cars. I've heard they work quite well.

I know this doesn't fit with what the OP is asking about, but DOES validate that you can dry out your desiccant bags in the oven.

On a related topic... how many people do you think had to eat these before they realized they should put do not eat on evey bag?

Ask the pharmacy you use to keep them for you if you are on good terms with them. We toss hundreds of them every day. They should give them to you.

I'm tossing a couple of them in each drawer of my tool boxes. With the cold weather, fog and rain, the tools get a little surface pitting. The garage is unheated and I don't have any projects to keep me there, so the tools just sit in the drawers. I've wiped them all down with WD-40 but want the extra insurance.

The pharmacy idea is one I didn't think of. I'll get a hold of my daughter (a Pharm-Tech) and ask her.....

She'll be able to get you bunches. As I was filling scripts (I'm a tech also) I would toss them into a sandwich baggie. By the end of the day, I had close to 100. I was using them to dry out wet electronics.

I think I'd just get some of the little "bar" heaters that they sell for gun safes and put one in the very bottom of the tool box. Silica gel packet, in my view, is going to be a waste of time...

Michaels Arts and Crafts store sells 2 and 5 lb bags of pure Silica desiccant in the dried flower section. You can use tea bags that you have carefully pulled apart or ***** hose zip tied on either end to make little desiccant pouches.

I use a lot in my garden. I recharge them by laying them out on a sheetpan and setting that on my roof in the sun for an hour or two.

You can also find them in shoeboxes. So if you know someone who stocks shelves at a department store that may be another source..

I use to unload Aston Martins from shipping containers shipped over from England, They would have 15 or 20 1 kilo bags in the container. We just threw them in the dumpster. Might check with a High-End dealership.

I have a bunch of 16 oz ones if that would work for you?? We use them at work in bomb cans. Most cans have 8-10lbs of it and we just throw them out when the humidity indicator in the can changes color.

Excellent suggestion on using tea bags, but instead of pulling apart tea-filled bags and making your toolbox smell like a Tea House, you can buy packages of 100 empty teabags at many grocery stores. These are in the bulk fresh tea section. In the North East Wegman's carries them as does Publix in FL.
