Need some SO box advice

Alright, so my dealer has a KRL-1033 on sale. $6200 and then another 1000 dollar rebate if I finance through SO. 90 days same as cash also, and then 9.9% interest.
I was planning on waiting a few years to get a box this big, but I'm out of space in my current HF box, and for a deal like this I kinda think it would be dumb to pass it up, since I was already planning on buying the box at some point.
I would pay it off before the 3 month period was over, so no worries about interest.


My dealer told me he's never seen a deal like this before, and that he doesn't think SO is going to do something like this again. What do you guys think?
Once in a lifetime deal I should jump on? Or just wait and another deal like this will come around later on.

$5200 after the rebate sounds like a great deal to me. I'd say that's about as good as it gets, but I don't really follow the prices of new Snap-on boxes.

Im actually surprised its that low. Better than many CCs. Most of the Snap-On credit APRs I've seen have been closer to 20%.

if you can get a large chunk of cash together I would buy a used box. There are a lot of used boxes around that can be had for a lot less than 5k.

Most hobbies and certainly things like luxury cars and boats cost/lose you a lot more than a mere 5 grand.

That's a lot of money for a chunk of metal that isn't even street legal. Stay out of debt, or buy a used box. Don't go into that kinda deal thinking you're making a "wise" financial choice.

I bought my KRL 1022 ten years ago. At that time it was around $6K (now over $8K). My dealer gave me a $3000 trade-in value on my old box that I was into about $1200 (small SO boxes I purchased at a big discount while in vo-tech).
He also had a promotion that gave me a 10% SO credit for whatever I financed through them when buying a new box.

At that time it worked out pretty well for me.

However, if I had it to do over again I would have definitely looked for a used box instead of a new one. There are always new or nearly new similar boxes on Craigslist or in pawn shops for half what they sell for on the trucks. It sounds like you have the money to pay this off quickly. If you have or can gather $3-4k through your assets or a short loan I would seriously consider that option.

I've looked at used boxes, but for a triple bay box in good condition I haven't found many that I liked. I'm the kinda guy that wants to buy a box once and have it last forever. I get kinda attached to my tools....
I'm still toying with the idea.

Snap-On doesn't have any control over truck credit, that's a courtesy offered to customers specifically by that one dealer. Some do let people purchase boxes on truck credit, generally they're well established and long time customers though.

I have bought a box and a cart on truck credit before, and a guy I work with bought a Mac box and hutch on truck credit. Depends on driver and you. If you have been making money payments for a while they may trust you and do it just to get the box gone.

OP I would do that deal if you like the box and layout. Good price do what warmpancakes says and ask for the 10% credit.

That's a great deal. When I got my 1033, I wasn't looking to go that big either, but I'm glad I did. It'll fill up faster than you think. I love my box. Ask your tool guy to keep an eye out for a good deal on a stainless top also

Buy it if you want it. If you are interested in it at all, then I would say you wont be disappointed at that price. I think my dealer gave me more for my 1033 than that cost on a trade in value toward my next box.
While I understand wanting some "is this deal good?" advice, you don't need me or anyone else around the web making you decisions for you. If you are comfortable with the debt situation and want it, then go for it. Pay it off and be happy, or pay the 9.9% and still be happy 'cause you wanted it and that 9.9 is probably still well under list price.

Many non techs think its dumb to buy on snap on credit, but they almost always give you a better price than cash, they offer rebates that make it worth while to at least initially put it on credit.

The current SOC rebate program ends at the end of the month. The new one won't be as good. If you qualified for 9.9 with SOC, you obviously have good credit and it sounds like you have the cash to pay for the box. Buy it, finance it thru SOC to get the rebate and then pay it off within the 90 days and you end up with a smokin deal.

I did this a few years ago. I had a KRL 761 with an international locker on the side that I paid 2k for used. (whole box) Got 6500 for it in trade plus rebate, my KRL 1023B ended up costing me only $4500. I was getting to a point where the 761 was getting packed and saw the chance to get a toolbox that I wont have to upgrade from. I havent regretted it one bit. Its always sweet to get an $11,000 toolbox for less than half the price. Its up to you, if you can afford to do it then I would. Good luck!

Here's another quick question: I've heard of snap on guys giving away like a cover or something when you buy a box. Is that a standard practice among tool truck guys? Or is it just something they do for their better customers?

Its something some of them do, though Ive never got a free one out of it. I was told "You got a good enough deal on the box". This was the same douche bag that ended up ripping me off a year later when he went out of business. Im sure my new dealer would have.

It all depends on the deal you get on the box. The dealers have to buy the cover. There is nothing that is truly free.

I didn't get a cover when I bought mine but I got the big epiq BBQ for free he was in a pinch because someone bought it from him that he trusted to do a truck account and they switched jobs when he went to deliver the box
