After a few big machine purchases, I find myself looking short on space and trying to tidy up/reorganize.

I have a few of the stack on parts bins like these

but they are a nucience and i hate them.

I really would like a vidmar or lista cabinet and have ALL of the small stuff in there... Drill bits, taps/dies, nuts, bolts, screws etc etc. Once central location int the garage with everything I need.

After searching CL I dont even dare look at the retail price of new. I'm watching a few on auctions but it really doesnt seem feasible since i will have to rent a uhaul and drive 200miles round trip (my minivan died last week:sad::sad::sad::sad:)

Before i Pony up the money, is there any other solutions for something similar and cheaper? I would LOVE if Harbor freight made one.. i love my tool chest from them. Or is there a company that makes the "side rails/ divider inserts"? that i can weld on to a tool chest/cabinet? I have a stomp shear and brake so i can make dividers.. but to make the side rails would be a PITA.

I really do not want ANY bin style cabinet/storage system. The only alternative i can think of is buying another HF tool chest and getting the little plastic storage bins... but even then i cant expand it as easily as the divider system...

help?

Just be patient and search every day. The deals will appear. Nevermind wishing for a HF copy!

What do you want to spend?

Is there a local Federal, state, county, city auction? Are there larger companies that might be having an auction? If you want the thing it seems to me the 200 mile drive is a WHOLE lot cheaper than a new Stanly/Vidmar, though there are knock offs I'm sure there ain't nothing like the real thing baby.

its a large company auction... its about 100 each way. uhaul truck will be 120ish plus gas alone. so i need to figure out how much i can bid to make it still "worth" what im paying. oh plus a 15% buyers premium............

I paid $25 per drawer for my 60" tall Vidmar, and I think around $6.90 per drawer for 29 drawers of Equipto storage in two cabinets, each 7' tall.

25 per drawer retail for new? or at....?

$200 for tall 8 drawer Vidmar from CL last spring. The massive Equiptos are from eBay. I bought a 60" wide Lista on CL for $700...I think it has seven drawers.

Try taking a look at these from Global. I have 3 of the 30 drawer units on order to start a bolt bin in the shop using the ones with the 17 1/4" deep drawers. They are similar to your plastic ones but made of steel with drawers that are 5 3/4 wide and either 2 3/4" or 3 1/2" tall.

Global stackable drawers

Check with surplus office furn. companies for used card files, like the libraries used to have. Also Craigslist etc. Everything is on computer now- very small
market for them, they often go cheap.
Something like this:

Look for one made of metal- if you find a nice wood one like in the pic, you could probably sell it for enough to buy a Vidmar/ Lista!
