Need suggestion

I bought my home 41 years ago. For 33 of those years there was a pole in my back yard with a light on it like power companies use.

The person I bought the house from worked for a power company so I assume he installed it. Never a minutes problem for 33 years. The light came on at dark and went off at daylight.

Then it went out so I just also removed the pole and put the wires away of course after removing the breaker first. The pole was starting to get rotten anyway. It was in the ground several feet with concrete around it

Now I would like to put a light back up. It was about 40 feet from the house and kept my yard nice and bright. I still have the original wiring including the wire cable that was run with it.

Should I just buy a new light, install a pole and put a new one up or should I bury the wires?

I know I will have to contact the city before I bury any cables. I had rather just run the cable and power wires like it was as it was plenty high enough to be safe.

Maybe call the power company but I don't think they will install one on my property, I know they do install them on the street side and I get billed but I need light in my large back yard.. Thanks for any tips. Tom

Do you have an alley behind your house?You might be able to get the power co to set a light on an existing pole in the alley to light your yard,then just pay the bill every month.

No alley. Just a large back yard .

My neighbors house yard has never been cleaned up with large trees and thick bushes.

We have had problems with coyote 's and I need the light to keep them out of my yard. I spotted one just looking at me in in the middle of the day a few months ago and I have heard them howl at night.

I have several rifles but its against the law to shoot them in the city limits plus there are houses several hundred yards from my house. A creek separates my property from those behind me so we are sort of secluded .
We never had any problems when I had the large light.

I guess I can put it up like before and just be done with it. Tom

The easiest thing would be to install new pole and light and reuse the aerial wires. If you bury the wire, the wire will most likely need to be replaced because the existing wire is probably not rated for being buried.

A plastic pop bottle makes a good 1 shot silencer.

You will want to bury the wire and the poco will not install or have anything to do with this pole.

You might call the power company and see what they offer. Many offer a service they call "Guard Light" or "Security Light". Coops are especially known to offer this type of service. You may not even get charged for the installation, just a monthly fee added to your bill.

That said, you'll end up paying less over time if you install one yourself but the power company option can be pretty convenient if they offer the service.

I will call the power company today and see if they can just add a street light in front of my house. I think that will help light the back area. Thanks
