Hey guys,

First post here. I've been lurking for a while but was waiting until I actually had something to ask to get signed up. I am in the market for a new toolbox. I have a few motorcycles that I work on and I have accumulated several tools over the years and have outgrown my box. I currently have a Husky pro series box that is 26" wide but I am looking for something in the 40-50" wide range. Given the economy and everything I would like to keep my purchase price to a minimal amount. If I ultimately had my choice it would be a nice 50" bright yellow snap on box with a a center section and hang on drawers but unfortunately I am only a weekend wrench so I can't justify that. I have a tool shop in my area that is selling 40" waterloo top/bottom boxes that are scratch and dent for $650. Only minor scratches on them so it isn't a big deal for me. The top sections has dual latches on the drawers and the lower sections drawers somehow lock into a clasp of some sort when closed. (hard to explain). I have also checked out a Harbor Freight box that is 44" wide but that setup is $1k. I've heard of the waterloo brand but didn't know what you guys think? If I go with the waterloo then I will likely be looking for a middle section and possibly a hang on section. Do you know how hard they would be to locate?

Most of my tools currently are craftsman and husky but am starting to get an assortment of SK tools so I'm not storing a bunch of real nice/high dollar tools. I just need more space because I really like to keep my stuff organized so that I can find things. Thanks.

Waterloo is a good brand and if you can get a 40" top and bottom for $650.00 I would say go for it where are you located as others might like to get in on that deal :D.

I just got my Craftsman Club flyer yesterday which features a Ball Bearing Griplatch 41" top and bottom box for $700. (Reg. $1400, Sale $1000). These are from Waterloo. The illustration shows black, don't know if colors are available on this offer. But I have these boxes and am very pleased with them.

I good quality box in the size preferred at that price new is going to be hard to do; however, it can be done with eBay or craigslist. :)

If you are lucky I suppose. I have been looking for a good used 41' roll cab for months on craigslist and have not had any luck yet. I see plenty for $2500 and up

I sure would be patient and do some searches on craigslist.... its how I got my box and a bunch of tools. If you are interested start your offers a couple hundred below asking price and bring cash. A couple quick searches yielded this nice find:

Another nice one but a bit more $$

This one sure would clean up well and at the price is a great deal

All these searches got me drooling over this locally... this would be a steal if you could get for around $2 grand

Thanks for the info guys. I've been watching craigslist for the past six months. The ebay boxes seem to go for a little more. I'm sure as the economy tightens more people will be wanting to sell them but I'm to a point where I will probably need to get something soon. I'll watch it for a little while longer but will probably end up buying something by Christmas if something doesn't come up. Thanks again.

I'll have some tonight. Still working on changing the stuff over. It'll take a couple of evenings to get it all totally the way I want it.

It is a 4000 series box. It's got a few blemishes on it but for what I paid for it I think I got a decent deal.

I'm probably going to start watching ebay for some snap on rachets(stay with my craftsman sockets for now) and some other misc tools that I need but don't have yet. From this point forward I'm gonna try to stay with the nicer stuff but I'm not in a hurry to replacing what I already have. Pretty much all of it is craftsman with a few husky tools in there. I've still got alot of organizing to do. Also gonna keep my eye out for a hang on box for the side of it as well.

This is sort of off topic, but not really so here it goes. Are there any ~42" wide boxes less expensive than Snap-On, Matco, etc. that have drawers deeper than 18"?

Great score. I got the same boxes last fall for $1200 and thought I got a great deal. At $1000 I would have been very, very pleased.

Thanks. Yeah I woke up this morning and said to my wife "ya know what...she said no.....I then said There's a snap on toolbox in my garage" with a grin ......For some reason I don't think she could appreciate my enthusiasm. :shocking: :bounce:

You might want to look in to something like this, which is a little bit deeper:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JY10...m14QQhashZitem300264442062QQitemZ300264442062

Lista does have 29" deep boxes, too, but I don't see a lot of them on eBay that are also >40" wide. You could order one new, and it will still probbaly be cheaper than snap-on, but still a lot of money :(
