OK so here's the deal. A friend and myself are thinking about starting an auto detailing service. It will more than likely be a mobile service so I may need water tank suggestions as well. The only experience I've had with a gas powered pressure washer is when I was detailing at the Toyota dealership which used a Honda pressure washer. I doubt I'll need anything over 2000 psi and even that's on the high side for detailing. So what do you guys suggest for a starter pressure washer?

The only time I use a pressure washer on a vehicle is to clean the mud off of my 4WD truck after an off-road outing or maybe to clean the suspension on a car if I am going to work on it soon. Do you really need a pressure washer for detailing?
Check out http://www.northerntool.com/ for pressure washers including the kind with a tank.

I did this for a summer with a friend. We got one with a better motor, rather than the $200 gas ones that are fine for occasional use. Also, we got de-ionization tanks so that the water didn't streak and there was no drying needed. You won't need a lot of pressure, but if you get a higher end model it will probably be more pressure, so remember to turn it down or you will be damaging the paint. It works well to have 2 people, 1 to wash and rinse and 1 to scrub.

I detailed cars for a living for 6 years. I've always worked for places that had industrial equipment though. I've never really looked into buying my own equipment until now.

Major Ramifications yes for the type of stuff we're going to be doing I need the pressure washer. It makes things go alot faster if you have multiple cars in one location. I'm using the term detailing loosely. For the most part it'll be just washing cars. Thanks for the link.
