Need threaded inserts

So I want to be able to mount my HF manual tire mounter/dismounter to my floor, but only when I need it. I am having no luck finding some threaded concrete inserts so I can just bolt it down when needed, then remove. 3/8 -1/2 inch should be enough. Anybody have a good source?

Is this for an existing floor? I don't think anything like that was ever invented, but maybe somebody will speak up. You may have to invent your own. If you can stand having a wedge anchor nut on top of the floor, that would make it easier on you. Just anchor a patch of boiler plate down with your desired bolt pattern attached. If you want it all below the surface, the next level of sophistication might be to epoxy a threaded sleeve into the concrete.

I'll be doing the same thing eventually. I plan on using the stainless expanding type and then putting in stainless socket set screws as plugs to keep the dirt out when not in use.

You could use drop-in anchors where you drill to a specific depth, drop in the anchor and expand the bottom by rapping on a steel rod that fits past the minor diameter of the threads.

Work well where the loads are mostly across the plane of the concrete and not trying to tear the anchor vertically up and out of the 'crete.

search drop in concrete anchors or removable concrete anchors. there are many styles that are not the typical stud that sticks up. I have used the ones rider posted from home depot on equipment in my shop. I've also used others that are a two piece design that drop in and are flush.

My recommendation is to use an actual hammer drill, not a cordless drill that has a hammer feature. those will egg out the holes larger than needed and can make the anchors pull out when tightened, or raise them above flush

What you want is a threaded insert that has a removable plug or cap for when you're not using it. Without that, the hole will fill up with **** and the insert becomes unusable.

dont sweat dirt in the anchor too much . mine have been in the garage floor for 20 yrs now and I shop vac cleans it right out

Agreed and you can always cut some flutes/grooves in an old bolt to chase the threads every now and then

I welded a piece of 2" square to the bottom of my HF motorcycle tire changer and it slides into a 2" receiver I put in my floor. It was a PITA to cut the concrete to get the receiver in there, but it is nice. I also have a vice mounted to a 2" post.

I want to put 4 anchors in the middle of my concrete shop floor that I can use to bolt this to when I need to use it.

Drop in anchors are what you want. Powers Fasteners makes a system where the drill bit is only long enough to drill the perfect depth. Then you set them with a setting tool made for the anchors. I used them on my garage door so I could bolt it to the floor to prevent someone from trying to pry it open. It’s a roll up door so I couldn’t use the typical latch that goes on the inside.
