Need to add trap

Old 1st floor bathroom with small cast iron tub does not have any trap. 20 yrs of mild sewer gas smells despite rubber stopper in drain and silicone filling up the overflow chrome opening. Don't use the tub often. But getting more sewer smells (have replaced the toilet wax and caulked around the toilet). Still happening.. so time to install a trap, I guess. Very tight spacing. From the tub drain very quick 90 deg to meet up with the vertical drain (1 1/2 inch) from the overflow opening higher on tub wall. From that T I have 4-5 inches before the vertical 1 1/2 inch pipe connects to the big Horizontal black PVC drain line.

Does anyone have a simple solution to add a trap or something there to stop sewer smell? I am no plumber and hope to deal just with that 5 inch, 1&1/2 inch vertical section that connects to the ********* PVC.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Looks like that floor joist is kinda in the way. Cut it out of the way and run a couple 2X's look like only 6" in the pix but whatever size existing is, between the joists on either side and pick up the cut joist with the new 2X's, add some more meet to your two joists you're working off of and it should look like you just framed in a window on the horizontal. Cut out the T from the main line. Drop in a trap straight down and have the trap arm go into a T-wye on the side. The new 't' will be a bit further downstream than the existing.

It looks to me like that tee into the black 3" pipe is in the wrong spot and should be moved. If it can be moved ~12" or more to the left in pic #2, you might be able to fit a P trap that runs along that joist and into the 3". The bottom of the P would be just touching the black pipe and rise back up to the bottom of the sub floor, run over to the new tee and down.

Probably not the best solution but if you could get the brass tailpiece off and the fitted abs adapter out there just may be enough room to squeeze a trap in there.
A 90 with female threads to screw onto the brass tee, another 90 shooting down into a trap, of coarse a 90 or probably st.90 going back as high as possible so another 90 can drop into the main. Not anywhere near code but I've had to use vent pipe fitting in certain situations. Tough call.

Forgive my ignorance, my primary trade skills center around Electrician, but someplace in my memory I recall a reference to a "Drum Trap".
Perhaps another can comment on the subject.

you can use a direct bath drain where the fixture drain is under the drain not under the overflow. Now you can install a 3 x 1-1/2 wye downstream of existing 3 x 1-1/2 tee and run to a p-trap under the drain

cap off the 3 x 1 1/2 as that was the improper fitting to use then install a 3 x 1 1/2 wye laying on a 45 then into the 1 1/2 install an 1 1/2 street 45 paralleling the 3" then an 1 1/2 p trap now you can use either 2 - 1 1/2 tubular waste bends or some more 1 1/2 with 2 90's and finish your hookup

Better said! That's going to work.

What about this ? They did you no favors there. Just look up waterless trap to find more options like this. We used these all the time in the RV industry.

Got it done. Had to use plastic and abs. No more sewer gas smell! The advice to post some more photos to show the rest of the ABS drains got me thinking of connecting to a 2 inch veryical drain just a little further away. I appreciate everyone’s advice.

How do I determine if the 2 inch line (vertical that I added a T and tapped into with the P trap) is properly vented? And what if it is not?
