I got the screw in the chuck out (clockwise to loosen). I took the right angle attachment & chuck off the drill, and now I'm trying to get the chuck off the right angle attachment.

I tried smacking the allen wrench with a mallet both clockwise and counterclockwise. No luck. Now I'm trying with a cheater bar.

What am I doing wrong?

Is it possible they are using some adhesive (like Red loctite) that needs to be heated to break bond? Also looks like there's a retaining ring/circlip that needs to come out. Not sure about the Donald Duck voice but looks like similar chuck removal here

My Rad kit came with a bar that went into the chuck key hole you smacked with a hammer while holding the arbor with a wrench. I assume the Allen wrench may work clamped in the jaws. I seem to remember it took a bit of a sharp blow the disconnect everything.

I suspect that the flats you have the wrench on, are part of the chuck and you are just trying to twist the chuck in half.....
The flats or hex is the shaft coming from the right angle adapter and not part of the chuck

there wont be loctite from the factory, but some good hard smacks counter clockwise will get er loose.

My $0.02- if it’s stuck, buy another chuck, use that straight on. Don’t break / crack the right angle drive trying to get the chuck off the drive.

If there’s no locking screw in the Chuck, maybe left hand thread?

Put something like a 3/8" Allen wrench in the chuck and the other end in a vise and start the drill in reverse. Usually, it'll spin right off.
I tried that - didn't work and I didn't want to start burning the motor.

I took that screw out. And yes it's left hand threaded.

I'll give this a shot. I wasn't sure if it was clockwise or counter clockwise. Thanks for the clarification.

The manual says to take the right angle attachment off the drill to avoid damaging the gearing. Here are the relevant parts of the manual.

I have two of these drills and my solution, since I'm the laziest white man on Earth, was to buy another chuck (Rohm). That way you just loosen the bolts, take the right angle attachment off of the drill and put the chuck on and within a minute you have a straight drill. Within a minute you then again have a right angle drill. When you're really lazy you always get inspired to minimize the effort involved. This might be why I've got so many tools.

I must be lazier than you. I have a RA, a Hole Hawg, two 1/2”, a 3/8”, and a 1650 D spade handle, all MKE

No need to change the RA unless I need a speed change

I managed to get the chuck off. Used 2 metal square tubes for leverage.

I tried the high speed setting (reversed the RA attachment). Doesn't seem all that much faster.

At least I know I can have a straight drill fairly easily now. Thanks for the help guys.

I think it’s only 33% faster , so not mind blowing.

To make it straight faster, grab a spare chuck with the same threads, one less connection to break and make.

Or another drill or two.

The D handle will probably only be used as a mud mixer, as it's torque terrifies me right now.
