Hi guys, I'm a new member and would like to get some advice on how to get some of my stuff organized. I have a three car garage and the first two bays are taken up with two vehicles. The third bay is kind of a catch-all and it's where I park my zero turn mower and just kind of throw stuff. I'm getting sick of looking at the mess and I want to get it decluttered. A lot of the stuff in the photos would't normally be stored here and it's just stuff that has accumulated and will be moved elsewhere when I do my spring garage cleaning. I'd like to create a nice storage area in the corner with at least some base cabinets with a worktop. I would love to put some wall hung cabinets above them but the window makes that impractical.

I have been doing some research and I really like the New Age Pro line of cabinets. That being said, I'm open to other suggestions. To be honest, I don't have a ton of tools that need to be stored, but I would like some cabinets to put stuff in. I'd prefer to purchase pre fabricated cabinets as I don't have the tools, time, or expertise to make my own.

I have included a couple photos to give an idea of the space. I have 74 inches to work with on the back wall and about 90 inches on the window side.

Keeping a garage clean is a full time job. I built a 12x20 shed and all the junk goes in there , both my garages are empty except for cars and a few shelving units. You can do it

I know I can do it, but it's just so easy to clutter it up!

Grandma used to say “a place for everything and every thing in its place”. It took me nearly 35+ years to really understand it. Lol

Make a place for everything you want to keep.

You think that's messy???...........Amateur!

Welcome to GJ!

Getting things up off the floor and on shelves, hooks or in cabinets will make it all good.

I gave up. I now just dedicate a day or two twice a year and clear it out, put stuff away, re-organize if needed. In between those few days, the stuff gradually gets stacked around and eventually I can't find stuff I need and get pissed and begin to plan the next clear-up session.

I seriously organize everything during every pandemic...

My biggest thing in organizing ... is putting "like tools" together... I have a drawer of knives instead of 53 knives in random locations where they might be needed.

To go with that... in my parts bins... I have a Stanley organizer for all the spare knife blades.

my best solution to the clutter in the garage was to put up a shed.

riding mower, gas operated yard tools, irrigation system spares, and shovels/rakes ect stay in there now.

gas grill, snowblower, snow shovels get rotated in and out as the seasons change.

I spent an afternoon the other day putting hand tools back where they belong, and clearing out spare parts I don't have a need for any more.

We have a 1 car garage packed full of stuff but it all can be moved out so we can work on wood projects because our workbenches are all on wheels with storage below them. For the smaller items we thought about putting in cabinets but decided those were too limited in how much could be stored there. Our solution was 12" deep shelves using 1000 lb weight limit shelf brackets and clear totes labeled, but we can also see what is in them. We used different sizes and can stack them so it works out well. His tools that are in their own cases stack neatly on the shelves and are easy to get to.

Build as many 24" deep counters as you can work/walk around. Put cabinets above them with undershelf lighting, then shelves or cabinets or drawers under them.

Tool Hooks and shelves on unused walls. I like used tool cabinets for workbenches with drawerers underneath. Watch craigslist and marketplace.

That is definitely in the top 1/2 of 1 % of cleanest garages on this site. Had to get that out there.

I suggest steel shelving. It does not look like you really need much as far as organizing.

I suggest a shed for the mower and all landscaping equipment.

One of the cleanest garages in America. He must have just moved in.

Go to Costco and buy some heavy duty shelves and configure them on what you are storing.

TIP! Leave a 12-18” space under the bottom shelf and you can roll a machine or something heavy duty under there........ That is where I store my chemicals in milk crates, generator and pressure washer.

I have a 22x32 shop,
we have a 12x20 shed for mowers, lawn stuff, propane, shovels, wood rack, etc
I have a 8x12 shed behind the garage for garage junk,
The shop has a walk in attic to store parts of current projects, etc.

Nothing,, absolutely nothing goes into the shop that does not have a permanent place.

Yep a clean slate is nice but the dilemma is where to start. I'd start with figuring out what do you plan to do in that space, even if its a few years out? Will it continue to be a catch-all and you just need organization for that, or do you need bench and floor space for projects. Do you need space for tools, machinery?

If you are planning to do stuff in that space and also have storage, I'd recommend a shed like the others to get your lawn stuff and other bulky, less-used items out of the way.

After 3 units of the 48x18x72 costco shelving units I stopped. Only worked in a certain area, for certain things, and its not tall enough.

Started building 12" and 24" deep shelving in-place instead. Each shelf is a pre-fabbed frame that I build (2x lumber and 1/2" plywood); screwed to the wall on one side, and supported with a vertical 2x4 post and blocking on the front edge. Leave a big space off the floor before the first shelf (for heavy or wheeled items). Remaining shelf-spacing loosely based on whatever containers I have on hand - either totes, or old cardboard boxes.

I'm short on space overall, so I skipped having any real counter-top for now. My scaffolding set does double-duty that way. I can also toss a chunk of plywood across a couple pop-up sawhorses real quick.

I'd keep it simple. If you like the quality and the price of the New Age Pro Series cabinets, maybe this set would work in the corner.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/NewAge-...binet-Set-in-Platinum-7-Piece-51969/309420800

Install the two base cabinets on the 74" wall with a 6' bamboo countertop. Leave some knee room between the two cabinets for a shop stool. Install the two wall cabinets above the countertop, off-setting them away from the window, if necessary. Install some pegboard on the wall between the countertop and the bottom of the wall cabinets. Install the two tall cabinets on the 90" wall. Add a third tall cabinet or an open shelving unit on this wall in the future if there is room. Install some wire shelving on the wall above the window and the tall cabinets for plastic storage containers.

If that’s a mess, I must be a hoarder when it comes to the garage. Though, I’m working on getting it cleaned up.
