So I am turning some aluminum spacers and the lathe starts to slow down, I shut down to check belt tension and it is good. I grab the turrent and it seems to act like it's stuck between gears. Check and everything is set right. I take off the top cover for the gear sets and find that a gear has stripped!!!
But here is the best part,,,, the gear that had the teeth stripped off is nylon!!
So I call Grizzly to order a new one and to rip them about having a nylon gear in there and then I am told that the have discontinued the nylon gear and have upgraded it to a metal one since they have been getting a bunch of complaints. They then told me that I would have to pay for the new gear!!!
Now I have to take it all apart to get this gear out to replace it.
Why put a nylon sacraficial gear in a belt driven lathe? If you get hung up, the belt is suppose to slip, not you having to disassemble the gear box to replace a gear.
