Need to remove center post in garage

Hello, I am new here and excited to be part of this group.
I have a question and need some direction
I have a 22x22 garage. It has a 2nd floor I use for storage. There is no center post on 2nd floor.
There is a post in the center of my 1st floor which I would love to remove so I can work on my cars.
There are 2 garage doors with a post between and there is also a beam on the back wall.
My question is can I remove the center post and put in a ceiling support beam

Well the post is there to hold up the second floor you can remove it but need to replace or sister to the existing beam with a beam rated for the load. You need the span length and what it's holding up info. You can go online and find a span table for a beam or lumber yard tell them what you have.
Thing is the beam is going to hang down even further than what is there, unless you want to cut joists use hangers and set beam up to the floor.
So yes it can be done need more info as to what to use.

be aware that if you go with a "beam" to replace the post, you may need to add some structure to the end point mounts of that new "beam". Can not see what is behind the walls to see what type of construction was used to support the existing 2nd floor.

Simple answer is....yes you can
Install a beam with support on each end, then the post is not needed.
If it was me I would use a steel Ibeam

as said, yes, the post can be removed by adding a beam, properly sized, supported etc.
best to get an engineer to spec it for you . might need a permit too, depending on your municipality/
might be possible, (and cheaper) to add 2 posts and remove that center post to give you more room in the center. again a job for an engineer really

May I suggest you update your profile with better location as per what you posted as in future you may find that helps. Specially given this is a very global forum. Often you will find subjects may get different answers depending on locations and regulations.

Plus the floor may need reinforcement under where the lally columns (or whatever hold up the new beam) are placed, ie a proper footer.
