I am need of suggestions on some metric hex head sockets preferable 1/4" drive in specific 3 to 6mm individual. Not wanting a set. Snap-On shows 19.70 a piece on there website. I am not happy with the bits in the Craftsmen, they slide out to easily and not enough "bite" when I am comparing to my Wera Hex keys. So any other suggestions? US or German made only please. And I really dont want to buy from a truck brand if possible.

Grainger shows SKs for about $13 each. Not sure how much cheaper you're gonna get and stay American or German...

Under $5 a pop on wihatools.com... "Bits made in Germany, sockets made in Taiwan" :dunno:

If that's not good enough, then it's not exactly a valid comparison. If it is, I'm not sure why you're asking for other suggestions? :p

Why not just buy the bits, and replace the craftsman bits with wiha.

Actually the socket part of the wiha bits sockets are made by heyco in german. There is a inaccurate post on amazon saying they are made in taiwan. But the sockets are made by heyco. I have a set.

Jeebus, tooltopia is getting more for the SKs than Grainger. I never knew anyone could be more expensive than Grainger.

They do have a 2-6mm SK set for $49, though.

I haven't price compared to Grainger's, although typically Grainger's is sky high for anything. But what I've noticed is there are many SK sets at tooltopia that are a great value, but not everything SK is cheap there. So you need to search through what tooltopia has in their SK inventory, and if you do, I think you'll find some good deals. I think tooltopia has free shipping for orders over $100 too.

I think tooltopia was getting $18 or something ridiculous on open stock. But Grainger wanted about $100 for the same 6 piece set, so no shocker there.

I rarely even bother calling Grainger when I need *anything*, I use them for what IMO is their only use... when you need something RIGHT NOW, at whatever price will put it in your hands. Every once in a while they surprise me, they had the caps for my compressor motor in stock (obviously) and the check valve for it a day away, and none of them was over $10, though I had to force-feed their central phone people the part # for the check valve, even though the compressor is a Speedaire and they should have a diagram.

look on Ebay for tool truck brands and their "associate" brands like Williams, Proto etc and you'll find a steal... may take some hunting though you know what they say about whats out there at any given time

I hear ya' man.

Why not get a hex driver bit 3mm-6mm w/ a 1/4 shank, get an old socket (some powerbuilt BS laying around) & rough up the shank - then gorilla glue that ***** in socket. That way you can cut your shank to size specification as well. My problem with hex sockets is sometimes they have too much ****** and one akward turn can strip the fastener.

I drive a "ton" of torx screws building decks w/ impact drill, I prefer that method best. Prefer wiha or wera gold series bits - very tough. However, in tight quarters, have resulted in cranking the ratchet w/ auto and other apps w/ the hex sockets too, but have cut some down to, to have more "tool torque" closer to the application.

Just a thought - hell I'm a noobie though. GL
