I have two saws that need new power cords:

Bosch 1581vs (hand held jig saw)

Craftsman Model No. 315.10860 (circular saw)

Anyone know where I can order replacement cords for these?

Thanks.

Thanks to both of you.

I went on the Sear's part website and ordered the replacement cord.

Jack, I'll try the other places. I love my jig saw but this will be the third cord I've changed. The saw lives in a drawer and the cords keep dry rotting about every 10 years.

Gentlemen,

Thanks. Both cords ordered. Both tools have been on my "to do" list since last New Year's Eve.

Thanks again for the help.

That's odd, the cords I get to rotting the outer sheath are the ones anywhere near my welder. (The ultimate sunburn...)

I can't figure out why the jig saw cord has rotted twice in the 20+ years I've owned it. I've got other tools that were stored the same drawer, same tem, same everything.

Not around a welder.

I figure it is a QC issue with the cord. I love the saw (not sure the same type is even still made).

Thanks.

Maybe try different brand of cord from other mfg like Makita ect. I noticed Home Cheepo has a replacment cord for either Bosch or somebody in the mfg's bag up on pegs above jigsaws. Worth a looksee?

Re: Need to replace two power cords on saw/also how old is a Craftsman Saw?

Never thought of radium but none that I know of. The jig saw lives in a large sliding tool drawer with about 5-6 other tools of equal age and equal value. When I bought the Bosch it was a pretty high dollar tool. It works great and I love it but the cords have been an issue. The last one I stetched out and just black taped it the cord from the plug to the saw. Yesterday I decided that I just should change the cord.

I'll be intersted to see what the new cord looks like.

I've got some older tools that have a similar type cord. The newer tools I have have more of a rubberized cord. The older tools (Old Craftsman circular andBosch jig saw) have more brittle type cord. I want to say like a "Bakealite) type cord but this isn't really what it is. The black protective coating is, for lack of a better description, just brittle. It looks like it just dry rotted.

I'll post an update when the new cord arrives to see if there is a design change.

For the price of the cord (about $10.00) if there is not a design change, I might just go with an extention cord and wire it in.

I want to have the new cord in hand before I make a decision on the new cord or using an extention cord.

I went ahead and got the new cord for the Craftsman saw because it is seems to be older and I like the Classic Look.

I found the saw when I bought a house about 25 years ago, it didn't work and I took it to the local Sears repair store (anybody here old enough to remember when Sears had one of these in each city?). It was fixed with a "Reconditioned by Sears" sticker. Nice saw. Plenty of power. The darn cord just couldnt' take it when It got caught up in the blade and chopped in half when my helper was using it. You'd think they'd make cords that stand up to a spinning saw blade??

Anybody got an idea how to date a Craftsman Circular saw by the model number?

Thanks.

I got in the replacment cord for the Bosch jig saw today.

Same lousy type of cord that it had before.

I think I'm going to take Jack's advice and hijack an extension cord and just make my own longer cord.

I'll "save" the new one because I just don't think it will hold up.

Final Update:

I got in both replacement cords. One from Sears, one from Bosch.

Both are "okay" quality but I'm going to take Jack's advice and replace the Bosch cord with longer cords that I'm going to make from extension cords.

The quality of the extension cords I can buy at Lowe's (in addition to being 25 feet long) is as good or not better than the two brand cords.

I'm going to keep the Craftsman saw "original" with the replacement cord but the cord quality is nothing to write home about.

And, yes, both of the cords appear (from the packing material) to be made in the USA.

In the future if I had to change a cord, I'd go the extension cord route.
