need to source lag bolts for stainless steel countersink application

I need to fasten stainless steel railing ballistars on a porcelain floor with wood deck underneath. 1 1/2 length minimum, 2" would be good.

All i can find is hex cap lab bolt screws - and not countersink. Would prefer a allen socket.. does such a screw exist? I would need about 200.

Thanks - i need 3/8 i think. McMaster seems to only have the hex-cap non countersink in that size. i guess that's my fall back to use the common hex-cap and washer if a more visual appealing cant be found.

I've never seen a 3/8" counter sunk wood screw. You might look into threaded wood inserts then use a machine screw.

^^Ditto^^ I've never seen a countersunk Lag before. You can get a countersunk hex socket head but it will have machine threads on it. I have a bunch of what the pic shows that I'm pretty sure is 3/8-16 that I'd give you 200 if you can make use of them for what you need, then use a 3/8-16 socket flat head screw.

These would only work if you have access from underneath to fasten the nut into the wood.

Thats going to be tough, I would search under "marine" fasteners perhaps?

If you cant find the proper lag, you mentioned a washer combo; try "fairing" washers.

Perhaps a lag stud with stainless acorn nut?

I would put shields in ( for lack on a better word)and find a standard screw for a countersunk hole.

Maybe a #12 or 14 wood screw would have a large enough head to match the size of the countersink. I wouldn't be too concerned about matching the size of the hole.

I'm looking for the exact same thing for a detail project on my house. I did find something from a NZ company and I think they were call Yacht screws or something, definitely marine application. I skipped over them because I only need a few and shipping would kill the deal.

Please post more pics of your handrail, those bases are sweet.

edit - You could probably use a #14 flathead woodscrew. That's about 1/4" diameter but I don't know the diameter of the head.

The hex socket countersunk has the best look, flat head or phillips just don't seem to get it, IMHO.

A lag screw/bolt into wood is a TERRIBLE way to mount a post for a railing. It will only be a matter of time before te lags pull out of the wood.

Kevin's idea is better. Best is a flat head machine screw (Allen or Torx) with a washer and lock nut on the back side.

This is a SAFETY items. Some one could die if you do it wrong !!

I'd be willing to bet that there aren't many residential interior handrail assemblies attached with fasteners on the back side. And, I would have to speculate that the four lags proposed in the OP's base plates would be sufficient under normal, household conditions.

That would work too - scanning for costs... hex head, washer and lock washer comes under $200 from ebay so price may trump aesthetics.

Compromising on aesthetics.. i ended up going with Albany Fasteners hex head. Qty 250 shipped including bolt. washer and lock washer was under $150.
