I got a row of cabinets about 6' long above my workbench. I was looking at LED lights to put under them. I would love to have the bright lights. I would make it easy and do flouresents but I only have about 24" or so between the benchtop and the bottom of the cabinets and putting a strip light underneath, I would loose about 4-5 more inches. I am looking to spend around $50-$60 for everything. Maybe more if needs be. Not looking for battery opperated lights. Anyone have any ideas?

Anyone tried this before?

I know that I would also need the transformer for it.

I just bought something similar to that off Amazon. Mine came in a 5m roll and is "bright white", instead of RGB. Mine was under $14 and included a power supply and a dimmer. It was an amazing deal, IMO.

Search Amazon for "Hitlights".

I got a set of these lights as well and plan to install them under my kitchen cabinets. However I have cabinets to the right and to the left of the sink and would like to run lights to the left then maybe use 16 gauge wire in the wall under the window to connect the lights as I finish running the lights to the right. Is 16 gauge the right way to do this?

I just received an order of the "high output" strip lights from Hitlights. They are VERY bright. Too bright for the kitchen accent lighting that I had bought them for, but excellent for under-cabinet lighting in the garage, I think.

The standard-output strip lights come with a power supply and dimmer. The high-output lights are just the lights. You will need to provide your own 72+ watt 12V power supply (if running the whole strip).

With LED strips you won’t have to worry about lights burning out either, as LED fixtures are rated as long life span. they are flexible and can usually be cut to the needed length, making the installation more flexible and easy.
Before buying your light you have to know how much output light you get from LED strip lights? you can read more here http://www.ledunder-cabinetlighting.com/2014/09/choosing-led-strip-under-cabinet-lighting.html for kitchens I recommended the silicon coated ones because it have the ability to repeal water and humidity with no corrosive effects.

If i were you i will go for LED strip lights they are very low profile and are great choice for kitchen under cabinet lighting.

I have a 24' strip of 12V super bright LEDs I got off eBay for $12. Haven't used them yet, but they would work well. I might use some in the shop, mostly got it for the race trailer.

I put a set of these on top of the entertainment center I build for my living room. The room is approximately 30ft by 20ft and with just these lights alone on top of the entertainment center I am able to light up the whole room, bright enough to see out of the front window. They are RGB but they have a white color that I am rocking most of the time. I like them so much that when I build my work bench I will be using them for overhead lighting on the overhang. They already come with 3M tape on the back side, just stick them on and plug them in. Good thing is if you get them home and don’t like them you can bring them back to HD, although I doubt after plugging them in you will want to return them.

I am looking for a set that would all be controlled by one switch. I have three separate cabinet areas that require wiring in wall to jump over sink, range, etc. Would I wire three separate outlets on a switch and buy three transformers, I really don't want them plugged into the backsplash outlets. Is there a low profile junction box that I could wire the transformers into so it stays hidden ? Also what is a typical wattage draw? I have an 800w microwave that is dedicated on a 20a. I was thinking about using it for under cabinet lighting

If you are extending a circuit on 15A breaker, 14 gauge is required. Assuming this is for the 120V part of the circuit. If this is downstream of the transformer for the lights then you are ok.

cheers

Just to update everyone, I never did find hardwired drivers that were less than 40 bucks a pop. I needed four of them. I wired a switch to the wall with cabinets, then ran Romex to each of the three remaining banks of cabinets. To keep low profile is the reason I wanted to hardwire the drivers. I found Hitlight 24w drivers for 10 bucks each. I ended up wiring in outlets and using these. They are from Amazon and will be hidden out of sight. Once I get the trim molding on the bottom of the cabinets. This is with nothing on but LED's under cabinets and two 3 watt LED puck lights in glass cabinets

Overall pretty happy for the relatively minimal investment of about 75 bucks.

I scrolled up and was say the picture of Hitlights brand and was like Hey! I used those... oh wait- that’s my post.

The lights still work great 2 years later. I did put in one large driver under the cabinet and then used the Romex to feed the strips 12v DC instead of 120v AC for a plug in driver

Check out Birddog lighting. They have high quality LED systems (a ton of them). These are not on the brightest settings and photo was taken during daylight..
