Need Wheel Blotter on Old Grinder?

Hello,

Two questions.

I just inherited an old Craftsman 1948 bench grinder, 115.6965.

The wheels pass the ring test.

There are no blotters between the wheels and the flanges. Never were.

It has lived in our garage for the past 40 years or so.

Should I put on some blotters or leave as is?

Also,

I read this from another posting on this site:

Basically, even if a vitrified stone passes the Ring Test, the bonding material can be compromised by improper storage - damp/wet conditions.

Should I be concerned?

The blotters prevent a point loading. If one grain sits proud, when it's tightened, it can stress the wheel. The shattering wheel injuries look pretty horrific in those safety films we had to watch.
