Looking for a wifi connected (for smartphone adjustability) but not a smart t-stat.
Building a shop that's a distance away from the house (well within wifi signal) and am looking for a t-stat that I can turn up temps before heading out to the shop.
I have a nest in the house and I love it! But the family routine is fairly consistent and it has learned our habits quite well. However, garage visits are far too inconsistent to utilize that technology.
If I used a smart t-stat, I'm afraid it wouldn't be smart anymore, rather, a poorly educated thermostat.

Anyone know of one with a phone app, but learning capabilities disabled?

I use this one in my house: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Honeywel...mable-Thermostat-Free-App-RTH6580WF/203556922

I also used the same model in my previous house and plan to get another one for my new workshop. I've had no issues. Best bang for the buck I've found. It allows you to program the schedule as you would with any programmable thermostat and it's easy to override or change settings with the App.

DC

PERFECT!
Smart enough, but not smart enough to outsmart me!
Thanks!!!!

I have that same Honeywell in my house and in my shop. My shop is about 3 blocks from where I live and it really does work great. This is the second year I've had them and the phone app is very simple and quick to load, takes a couple of seconds with one hand to turn up the heat.

I have the same Honeywell thermostat installed at our farm located about 2 hours away from home. I set the temp before we leave and the house is nice and warm when we arrive.

On the Honeywell thermostat, has anyone used it with dual zones? I have one stat upstairs, and one downstairs. How easy is that to integrate into one app or phone setting?

Very easy, I have one in my shop, 3 blocks from my home, and one in my home. The app just shows two bars one with HOME one with SHOP. They were easy to set up.

Buy another Nest and don't look back. Set the Auto Away temp to 50 and bypass the schedule. I have one in house and one in shop.

I've got a nest for the house and LOVE it for the house. But I don't need it.....err..... Trying to learn my schedule in the shop since that's so inconsistent.
I just wanted something that I could turn the heat up before headed to the shop.

Check into BayWeb thermostats, I bought one for $125 on eBay that will allow web connection to their server and a phone app for controlling the shop from the house. They are a legit company more aligned to commercial installations. It also allows x10 motion sensors so it will revert to it's pre programmed temp automatically after I'm out of the shop for an hour. Motion sensor activation can email you if you like for a poor man alarm functionality.
