Need wrench storage suggestions (pics included)

I'm tired of hunting through my wrench drawer to find the one wrench I need. Looking for suggestions to organize better that takes into account that I have a mix of different style/brand wrenches that I just sort of accumulated over 30 years. Some are my Dad's and I still like using them so don't want to simply go out and buy a complete wrench set with a holder.

Here is my wrench drawer . Somewhere in here I have at least one of the common sizes, probably metric too. This drawer is only 7.5" deep which might make it cramped for a couple wrench racks? But I have the option of moving my wrenches down to a lower cabinet drawer that is 16.5" deep.

I have these from snap on they have been in every box I ever owned. I like that they can be cut to fit the box and the mount and size of wrenches. They make seeing the wrench size very easy. They can be had in black and red (possibly other colors) I use black for standard wrenches and red for metric making it easier to find the right wrench for the job.

I use magnetic sheet on the bottom of my drawers and lay the wrenches flat. You cant store quite as many but makes finding them easy. They stay in place pretty well as long as you dont really slam the drawer.

My cousin has every tool you could imagine. I have a key to his shop he says come use whatever you like. Well every tool drawer has things just in it. Sockets Yep just throwin in. Screwdrivers wrenches drill bits doesn't matter. I spend the first hour looking for the tools I need.

one for SAE and one for metric.
These are in an H.F. 44" bottom. A bin for each size. Easy to find any size if its me.my sons or son in law. Also makes it easy to return when done.

Ernst has a solution, be it their wrench racks that stay in the tool box or the wrench racks that you can grab and take with you. I have the latter because I'll often grab the whole rack and take it with me on top of a machine while I work on it.

I have something similar. I have my stuff in a Lista cabinet with dividers separating the sizes up to 3/4". Everything bigger (to 1 1/4) is in the back. the bigger stuff yet is in another drawer with the hammers.

Another idea is to hang a pegboard on the wall behind the box. Problem solved and it is cheap and allows for more stuff to be purchased for hanging.

Why not more the wrenches to the larger drawer in the bottom box (with the zip lock bag in it) and just get some of those racks to put them in? I mean the triangle shaped ones with tabs sticking up that hold the wrenches in place.

I think the coiled wire idea taken from this forum works great. I have it in many of my drawers.

I think your shop warrants getting a proper full size top box for your roller. You need deeper drawers for more efficient storage. Use your current intermediate and small top boxes for other stuff like taps + dies, fittings, small parts etc. you can never have enough storage drawers. You might even find a great deal on a whole top and bottom full size box (60"H X 26"W X 18" D) on CL. It looks like you've out grown what you have and you need something with extra room that you can keep growing with.

For a home shop nothing beats peg board and have them all hung up. I would ideally use peg board as well, but I don't have enough wall space. For now huge tool boxes work with snap on wrench racks.

Just sink some nails or screws into all that OSB in the pics and hang them.

A 2x4 high up on the wall, many many long deck screws sticking out, size written real big and clear above each screw with a new black thick sharpie, box end of wrench hangs on screw. Left side is metric, right side imperial, smallest sizes in the center. Some screws have been added between sizes and up a bit for double box wrenches, i.e. 1/2 x 9/16, etc.

Another idea going along the lines of having another box... Select the wrenches/screwdrivers, etc that you most frequently use and need access too and store them where you can get to them in an orderly fashion. Have another box for tools that may be used less frequently. From the look of your box--you probably have another job in life that revolves around other things different from having a Snap-On credit account---so you're very much the same as many people out there looking for storage solutions. You could probably find another box on Craigslist and sell yours and only be out a few $$ if you need to go larger..
Either way--just like anything else just work around organizing what you can with what you have!
(Disregard some of the other ******** remarks of guys who invest in Snap-On for their own egosatisfactionism..)

Much less fancy but it works for me, I just group all of the same style wrenches together and lay them in the drawer facing the same direction (open end toward the back for example).

You might end up having to look through a group of 6-8 wrenches to find the size you want but much better and quicker than looking through a drawer full.

Good solution for limited budget and space. Some day I'll have a big fancy toolbox.

Ive got four drawers that look just like that ..

... altho they are sorted as Imperial, Whitworths etc, Metric, and Shifters/Multigrips.


All soon to be hung back up, on a shadowboard.

Personally, I much prefer, as an e.g.,
... Having all the 1/2" spanners, regardless of type, brand, etc., ... hanging on the hook/nail/screw labelled ... 1/2"

Does anyone know who makes these wrench holders? I saw them on a Craigslist post. Any opinions on them? I like that you apparently can slide the holders to make more room for larger wrenches.

I agree you need more toolbox for a shop like that, and pegboards can really save the day. If you live in a cold area, you might consider insulating before putting up more pegboard.

For wrench organization, I like Ernst Grippers, and at least two drawers, one SAE and one Metric, if you have some large wrenches, put them in a third drawer. All of which means... you need more toolbox.

I second this.
Its not gonna be effective if you're wrenchin' all day, every day. But for occasional usage, it works well.

It saves a ton of space, and its cheap, just a little wire or coat hangers to make 'em with.

They are also easy to pick up out of the box and take to your project.

Here's one (of several) i made. I preferred the look of copper wire vs. coated wire.
