Marvel Mystery Oil is sometimes recommended (I think one manufacturer even spec’d it for their ratchets)
I presume the solvent in the MMO evaporates, leaving a thin film of oil, that lubricates lightly without adding too much drag.

Love when old threads emerge from their death, but it's timely. I was given a bunch of old tools from my FIL last month from his days of running a tow truck business some 20-30 years ago. Some of the ratchets from him were pretty gritty or gummy feeling so I took the time to dissemble, clean, and lube all of my ratchets. It helped most of them a little, but the biggest change was an SK round-head ratchet that felt like it was ready for pasture, based on research here I think it's an early 1960's model. Now she feels brand new, in spite of all the chipped chrome! I used Eezox gun oil on most of them, and ALG very thin grease on the lowest tooth ratchets.

I use Super Lube and haven't found anything that it hasn't worked well with yet. You do need to be careful not to use too much though.
