I need new shop stove grates made as mine has deteriorated from the heat. How do I go about getting someone to make me two identical pieces (15” x 10.5” x .5”) and what steel is best to use? It’s slotted as shown but I don’t mind other types of openings if it’s no difference.

I built an outdoor boiler, and the grates that i used were cast iron floor drain grates = 24 in x 12 in x 1.25 in. Very heavy. They lasted 7 seasons, and after that time had huge holes burnt through them. I built my own out of 1.25" x 1/8" 304 stainless flat bar and welded it up to resemble the original grates. They were light weight in comparison. After year 2 they too were burning through and had warped like pretzels. So I bit the bullet and paid a lot of bucks to buy floor grates again. So the best material is cast iron. If you do make your own, I would build with a lot of mass.

Absent finding cast iron it looks like an easy laser cut job (sendcutsend)

You could get several made as the mild steel ones won't last as long.
