needle bearings

how do you determine if a needle bearing is good or not?
have two on my compressor crankshaft, wondering if i should replace them or not
if i keep them should i pack then with some grease?

Are you asking from a fully assembled compressor standpoint? Or disassembled so the bearing and crank itself can be inspected.

If they are out, replace.. more so if your going to "find a good idea to pull it out "

Otherwise standard stuff.. looking for wear , pitting, needle bearings broke up along with their cage, or seized and disintegrated.
Timken has an excellent page for ID'ng bearing wear.. And though not specific to needle bearing, it is still valid.
