I opened this just to say don't bother with the HF ones, you however beat me to it. Bought one On Monday thinking it would help with a small paint removal project. Took it back this afternoon.

I'll be watching this to see what others are recommended. Keith

Yes I scaled a frame for almost 2 hours with a HF pile of **** (someone else's) and i'm not doing that again. I'm not cheap when it comes to tools, i'll buy what is required. The CP and IR have good reviews, but I like the padded pistol grip of the CP better than a straight one. So thats where i'm leaning but I haven't put one in my hands. Here are the CP specs:

I ran mine for about 10 mins before I decided it was going back. I'm used to a huge bad *** one I used when I worked on tow boats pushing barges up and down the river. Used a TON of air, but would pound through rust and old paint like nothing else!! Glad we had a diesel powered compressor on board. Keith

I had no choice but to use it as I don't own one, a problem that will soon be fixed. The job would have been cut in half at least with a quality tool.

Sadly, I knocked the rust off five 40' bridge beams 15yrs ago... That scaler sucked then and they haven't changed them... I did make state intern wages though... :)

I have the mini-HF one and I mostly just use it for knocking slag off welds. I wouldn't use it for much more than that unless I was running 3/8" line with high PSI.

The best ones I've used are the ones you can attach to an air hammer. They may not work well in tight places but they do an amazing job. I can't remember the brand but I used an IR hammer with it back in 2003 on a CJ-5 frame and it was stripped pretty bare in about 4 hours.

We've been happy with the Harbor freight variant but I don't think were using them to the extent that an industrial level of use more for cleaning stick welds removing flakey rust and paint along with access in tighter areas there definitely not strong enough to remove heavy scale or thick industrial paint but I think for most sheet-metal and light-duty welding and fabrication they work ok they happen to be good at removing concrete from our masonry tools and stuff like that and you can even remove the needles on the larger one and its flat almost like a in-line riveter nothin like my real rivet gun tho

We use the IR ones at work and they hold up well. Use to get CP scalers and they worked well also. To keep them happy don't forget to lube them. My buddy bought one from HF for his jeep frame project...he wasn't happy with it.

Yeah I would never attempt something like a frame but we run 7.5hp 120 gallon two stage they work pretty well for light duty use as long as you got tons of air as with any high demand air tool

What are the part numbers for some better versions possibly industrial?

That Bosch looks nice, but I can't find a US dealer that has it. Looks like that was covered on another thread some time ago and no one was able to find one over here. Looks like the CP is going to be the winner.
