Needs some help with an air compressor (thread identification)

We have a Sanborn compressor at work and the built in regulator is absolute junk. So my plan is to bypass the onboard regulator and install one on the wall next to the hose real. I want to do this by removing the internals and capping off the regulator housing. My issue is I can't figure out what size threads are on the regulator housing. The OD of the threads is 1.240. They are not NPT; they are a finer thread. Unfortunately I don't have a thread gauge. I hope someone familiar with these compressors can help.

So what are the mystery threads and where can I buy a cap?

Does it leak? Personally I'd just set the pressure at max and then run the external regulator.

I can't say by looking. I suspect the odds of finding a cap are low. Can't you just remove the whole manifold/regulator body and switch to pipe fittings at the tank fitting? A few ******* and a Tee would get you an outlet and a gauge port.

I could. I was just hoping for a quick and easy solution, but I think you may be right about my odds of finding one.

x2 on this. Guaranteed to fit and no bypass through the smaller regulator holes.

x3 on this. By trying to make it quick and easy you are just over complicating it to the point of aggravation. Just remove the cheap factory regulator and treat yourself to a quality one mounted, as you said, next to your hose reel. This way you will only have to deal with everyday pipe thread fittings, available every where.

edit: while you are at it, a new reg with a water separator would be even better.

The same thing happened on my PC 4.5 gal compressor. Now it has a mini filter and 1/4" regulator with the coupler right afterwards. It has worked out well.
