Here is the scoop. I posted a “wanted!”item. OldToolMan is quick to respond several times to get me to his webstore: http://oldtoolman.com. While finding the item I see a ratchet that I figure to throw in the deal….You go to his store. Select the items you want and he emails you a total with shipping. Paypal is his method of choice so I pay him. Time goes on and I do not get a response. I email him back asking for a conformation and my return email is this: i have not received your money that i can tell. Let me do some research and i will get back to you asap. I'm sure it's there somewhere! Thank you! Hours later I received an email that stated: Tools sent out today. Sorry about the delay. Thank you. “OK” I’m thinking…we all can space out sometimes. Well, one item arrives and the other….well no. Now I’m pissed. I go to paypal, peel their business number and leave a message. I email them and PM OldToolMan on the Garage Journal site. No phone call back. Haven’t received a PM from the OldToolMan since my initial contact and here is and email I receive: I am very sorry. I mailed both items to you together on 10/15. The envelope weighed 1Ib 7oz with both items, and that is documented. Was the envelope torn in any way? I will begin an inquiry with the post office immediately and get back to you asap. If the ratchet can't be found i will gladly refund the price to you. We are not trying to cheat you, we don't do business that way. I will contact you tomorrow with more info. Thank you, and again i am sorry. The package was not damaged and was intact. No extra tape ect. They say they are going to check with the post office and get back to me tomorrow. Well… tomorrow is today and still no response. JUST GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK. So as of now I have contacted Paypal and I will let you know the progress. If you would like to purchase something from OldToolMan…like the NFL says “You make the call” Lets see if OldToolMan responds to me now!!

Wow, it seems like there has been a recent rash of deadbeat sellers, conartisits, and liars who have been peedling their wares on GJ recently.

Looks like they have been fleecing the young lambs with ease....:spit:

No humor intended.
I've noticed a lot of new members selling over the past year or so with little or no postings.
Many gullible buyers were falling all over themselves to buy from them.

And yes, sooner or later, some of them got burned by a newbie.

Sorry for the OP's problems and I hope this transaction is amicably settled but I did want to add that my single transaction with oldtoolman for multiple sockets went smoothly and without any hitches.

Here is the latest email I received after I reminded them that they were going to do their “research” and get back to me the next day:

It takes time to research these things. Larry is out of town until next Friday. And i am running the entire business plus my regular job. I just walked in the door. It is still today sir. I am sorry that i can not seem to make you happy in any way. I talked to Larry and he will refund your money as soon as he is back. I am doing the best that i can. I am sorry that you are unhappy sir.

Wow. Now I am a “Sir”. What type of “research” takes time? I’m sure the OldToolMan website has a flood of orders a day. If Larry will refund the money, why would he have to get back to town? Any ideas? What would make me happy is GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK!Anyway….the saga continues….

A note to all:
I'm sure OldToolMan is a fine seller. I'm sure that he is a fine person. I am only showing you one transaction that I have experienced that has gone very wrong. 1. Poor communication on many levels. 2. Spaced out on recieving my payment from paypal. 3. Not shipping an item. 4. Not resolving the problem in a timely manner. Larry is not the one who is performing poorly. (although he could reply to my numerous PM's)..his worker...but this is you employee and represents him.

FWIW I've bought several things from Larry and his company and it's been a pleasant experience every time. Really fast shipping (coast to coast) and he never overcharges for shipping.

Sorry for your trouble and I hope it works out for you. I'm sure Larry will take care of you.

I did buy a wrench from him, when I recd, it had large engravings on it, the pic only showed the good side, with no mention of owner marks.

Anyone can stand up a business in the internet age. Basement businesses can often give good prices since the overhead is low and they often don't stock items, rather have them drop shipped from the distributor. When something happens, there isn't a large customer service team available. I've had many successful transactions with these kinds of places. And I've read many reports of tools being stolen in transit out of the packages. If I decide to do business with one of these places (and I do) I understand that if the service isn't always professional, it's because I'm not dealing with professionals. It's on me because I chose that seller. Keep us posted as to the resolution.

Here is an update communication via email from the OldToolMan investigative team

I just talked with the Post Master in Camino. He informed me that there is nothing that they can do , as you say the envelope was intact, and there was no insurance on the item. Larry will be refunding the money for the ratchet when he returns home. I do not have the password for PayPal, so i am unable to do so. I am sorry about this whole thing. Have a blessed day. Thank you for your patience.

No password for PayPal huh? Yet you were able to look back on the account to see I made a payment. You need a password for that. Yet on 10-19-2011 11:12 OldToolMan restponded to wrencher for a “wanted! Post for some bonney wrenches and to OkdnSlo for some Thorsen metric socket needs in 3/8 dr. Now OK it could be his employee responding for him and he really is nowhere near a computer to log on to his PayPal account to refund me my money. I will have a “blessed day” when this situation is resolved….

Take a deep breath, give the guy a chance to make it right. It's only been a few DAYS, not months. You're getting communication from his side, not being ignored and screwed over.

I always thought his prices we too high for me to consider purchasing from him.
This latest ordeal kinda cinches the deal for me.

WOW....I'd hate to see what you'd say about someone that was blatantly trying to screw you over and took weeks to get back to you, if at all. It seems to me that they seller is trying to make it right. He's checking on what happened to the package before he gives a refund (if a person gave blind refunds every time a customer barked, they'd go out of buiness pretty quickly) and that takes a little time. As for the paypal password, if its set up to send notices to his email account, then the person replying to your emails can see them without logging into the paypal account. My advise is to give the guy a chance before you give him negative feedback on one of the avenues he uses to conduct his business.

Zrexxer & Canuckian:
If you would like to comment please follow the progression and details of the events. I understand there is a lot. "He" has not contacted me "OldToolMan" in any way. This is part of my fustration. I have already recieved the package with missing item.

Stuey:
Yes this transaction began early this month. Payment made 10/9. They lost? forgot? my payment record. I sent them an email asking for conformation and shipping details (basicly a nice way of saying "where is my stuff I payed for" . Then they noticed I payed and then they shipped 10/15. Got package 10/17. Issue is not recieving package in a timely manner (which was done after the fact they "forgot?". Issue is the progression of events and not refunding my money in a timely manner.
