Could be they are just calling it a negative cabinet because thats what they used it for.
Flat files, the proper name, can be made capable to hold 150 pounds of maps etc.
Ball bearing full extension guides.
These would be beyond fantastic for wrenches etc if you don't get too piggy about each drawer.
Main drawback is they are over 2' deep! So allow lots of room.
Each rack you pictured costs over a grand, retail.
Check em out!!

A few people on here have box's such as that one for tools as well as parts, they all say good thing's about them. For the price, I would run and grab it up. IMHO

I am in the mist of converting one to tool chest.

The shallow drawers are excellent for wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers!

The top "hood" on flat file cabinets are usually removable. With some innovation you can turn it into a hutch like any other top tool chest.

Also, I wouldn't worry about weight issues, the cabinet drawers are designed to hold hundreds of blueprints in each one.

The drawers slide on top of angled steel that does not extend or collapse like most friction and ball bearing slides. I thought I was going to be a bit disappointed at first, but after experimenting with several types of lubricants I was really impressed with how much smoother they open.

Echo's Bar and chain oil (black and yellow bottle in the first pic to the left of the water bottle :).)

Mak, $50 is a great price for a storage cabinet of that style. I paid four times that for mine.
