Affordable crowfoot sets? Neiko?
I’m an apprentice heavy truck technician looking to get a set of crowfoot wrenches. I know that Snap-on makes the very finest, but to get every size I’d need would be well over a Grand$$$. Not even close to the realm of possibility or reason for me at this point, especially for a set I might only touch once every month or two.
In my extensive searching, I keep finding sets that go up to a certain size (usually around 19mm)and cut off, and then the same manufacturer’s jumbo sets always seem to skip several sizes in between (often the 21-24mm range). GearWrench and Sunex come to mind... even if I combine multiple manufacturers, sizes in the 20s seem to be lacking in most affordable sets.
One brand that I’ve seen that offers continuing sets is Neiko. I already know that people are pissed that they’ve printed “Neiko USA” on their Taiwanese made products. I totally get that, and I agree it isn’t ideal, but for now affordability and usability is more important to me than that. I can get 8mm up to 50mm for about $150 without any gaps in sizes in the smaller wrenches. I need metric most frequently for now, so the SAE set can wait. I have seen reviews that they and Sunex don’t have detent notches inside them. I was thinking maybe I could just drill a small hole through them to serve that purpose... any thoughts? Any other decent options anywhere near that price range without missing sizes?
