Nephew update

A few days ago i wrote a thread titled proud of my nephew .
and after reading some of the suggestions I deiced to take my nephew to some yard and garage sale yesterday to see if he could find any deals on hand tools
we must have went to 7 different garage and yard sales and it wasn't till the very last one when he found stuff.
what is listed below is what my nephew picked up for $12 bucks


Combination wrenches

Craftsman 11/16,5/8 ,9/16,1/2, 7/16,5/16 and a 12mm

8'' adjustable from industrial ( never herd of em)

and a craftsman box end 3/8 and 7/16

A set of 3/8 Drive husky deep from 19mm-10mm no skips
Craftsman 3/8 drive shallow from 18mm- 7mm missing 13mm
Evercraft 1/2 drive shallow 1-1/16, 13/16,7/8 , 3/4 Metric 21mm 18mm 17mm 15mm

Good for you. He will never forget what you did for him. And I bet when he gets older it will be a story that he tells.

Keep going! You are doing great. Estate sales and garage sales are awesome for starting a tool collection on the cheap.

Some things are just plain easy to find at estate/garage sales. Find them. Adjustable wrenches, slip groove pliers, slip joint pliers, ball peen hammers, punches, torpedo levels,hand boxes go for pennies on the dollar.

Some things that are worth paying retail for: Fat Max 25' tape measure, modern ergonomic screwdriver set, gloves, specialty small engine tools

Make a list of what he has, so you can continue to fill in wrench and socket sets.

Not bad for $12. I'm glad you guys found some stuff. Some days you strike out, then others every time you stop you find gold. Keep up the good work.

Keep going! You are doing great. Estate sales and garage sales are awesome for starting a tool collection on the cheap.

Be careful though... it could also be disappointing not being able to get exactly what you want and settling for things you really don't want. Kids are finicky, I know I was once one of them! And a few strike outs and such could easily put him off pursuing this on his own.

This is a great way for him to look at various brands of tools and see, and experience, the difference in quality and feel without spending a lot of money. It will help him choose brands that he may want to pay full retail for later when it is time to for him to "upgrade" to his professional set up. It will also help him learn which brands he may want to avoid, without emptying his wallet.
