Nest Install double check

I see a lot of hate and love of the Nest Thermostats, prefer not to turn into a love/hate thread..... I got a great deal on this Nest Learning 3rd gen and went for it. I don't have Wi-Fi yet, so having to make changes on the dial for now.

I am hoping to get a double check of the wiring. My unit is American Standard forced air Heat pump with Heat strips (emg heat), located central AR.

1. On the old unit (Pro1_T721) there is a jumper on W/E and W2, keep finding info not to add jumpers on the Nest. I gather Wxx are for the heat side. Will my Heat/Emergency Heat work as expected with the Nest wiring? The heat worked but looking for confirmation about the Emergency side.

2. I plan to turn off the schedule learning, any other default settings I should consider changing?

The Nest should have asked you during setup what type of system you have. I believe if you tell it that it is a heat pump with electric back up that it won't energize the W1 unless needed.

Indeed it did ask what type of system I had. My concern is the jumper that was removed during install.

Nest will inform you if anything you tell it about your HVAC system relative to what it expects to be wired as the result is not right.
And of course, numerous amounts of YouTube or Google content to help with your problem.
Nest wants to see 24v AC coming in via your RC "or" RH connector (not both) from your appliance's line to 24v transformer.
And it wants to sense a common (ground) to complete its charging circuit.

Hmmm... I haven't heard that about jumper wires...

I just installed a NEST Learning Thermostat (Gen 3) for my son...
His old thermostat had a jumper from Y to W, so I installed the NEST with a jumper Y1 to W1.
Apparently, jumpers are forbidden (or not needed)...

So, should I connect the wire to Y1 or W1 terminal???

Yes, pull the jumper. I'm guessing you would want the wire on Y1. The Nest likely energizes the Y connection for both heating and cooling (turns on outside condenser) when setup as a heat pump system.
