Haven't had this for very long time. T-stat is learning my habits. Anyone experience any problem with the 'Nest' ?

If you're home a lot and it's in a spot that you don't walk by during the day, it thinks you aren't home and turns off the heating/cooling. Other than that it's pretty good.
Yeah, it's not so much that you'll experience problems with it as you might not be taking advantage of using all the features you've paid for. We've got a few in our labs at my office. They're better than your average comparably priced thermostat - not many in that price range - but what makes them special is their ability to adapt to your habits on the fly and help you cut energy costs.

I've had my Nest for a little over a year now. It is on track to pay for it's self by the end of the year. I like being able to control it over the internet. It took a while to figure out all the bells and whistles. I also like that you can see the history over the last couple of weeks and know exactly how much your heat pump and aux. heat run per day.
I also like it due to being able to use the internet...Its for a second home and we're not there much but I like to see how often the unit is on and what the temp of the house is..However, I have not really taken advantage of the learn function.

I don't have one but I was talking to a friend that has one and he said that the backlight that came on when you walked past was heating up the unit to the point that it was messing with the temp in the house. Turning off the motion activated backlight fixed the issue.

Your buddy must be walking past his every 8 seconds, then. It turns on for 5 seconds when it's motion activated, then turns off. If that's enough to mess with the temp in the house...There's something wrong with him...

Just make sure you install it with a common. I didn't, per their instructions, and the internal battery dropped so low that the unit died. Called them and they recommended a common be installed. Did that, along with a rev'ed version of their software and it works fine.

Seeing as how he is in a small studio apartment with his wife and 2 cats I suspect that can get a little active in there while they are home. It issue was with the backlight creating heat and throwing off the thermostat. Its just something to keep an eye on.

I believe in the settings feature you can turn that off...
