Yes, it would. Assuming you have a gas fired heater, they have 24 volt controls just like a furnace

Just installed mine the other day. Except it was on a radiant tube heater they say the nest is supposed to work well with radiant heat. I'll have to see how it does at controlling temperature to keep it on target. But yes it will work with any Heater that uses a 24 V thermostat. The third GEN nest was just released and places marked down the cost of the second GEN which is basically the same.

I installed two Honeywell wifi thermostats last fall and the appeal for me was to be able to turn the heat up in my shop before I left work or on weekends before I went there to do something. They worked well except I think if I did it again I would choose the Next because of the ability to track some heating data.

They should work fine on any equipment with a 24v transformer, however you do need a "C" terminal which can require that you do a little extra wiring on some units. There is a post here somewhere that explains the procedure.

I've been eyeballing the Nest T-stat but haven't had the time to research it. What is the appeal of it?
Main appeal is wifi connectivity and looks.

Personally I prefer ecobee. It logs runtimes and temps. You can export to a spreadsheet and keep track of things if you're geeky like me :)

I even prefer Honeywell over nest, way more options for controlling ventilation, humidity etc.
