$26k for a toolbox, you're right I would never need anything again, my bones would be scattered in the dessert and my wife would be having a garage sale.

Couple things I noticed, 11th picture down in the reflection you can see pair of large red tool cabinets.

$26k purchase and not a dime of discount from the full catalog price?

**** should be fun to watch the bid regardless.

LOL. Maybe he outgrew this toolbox.

If he's got a 'musclecar' shop, he's probably made a boatload of money the last few years selling cars that should cost $10k for $50k.

I always wonder what the point is of having one giant movable object instead of multiple, smaller ones. For that matter, how many tools do you actually need to get at on a daily basis vs. once a month (and so might as well be stored in Rubbermaid tubs). The world is full of mysteries to me.

On the third hand, expensive toolboxes just amaze me as a general rule. When you look at what an auto manufacturer will sell you for $26,000 (twenty six thousand dollars!) and compare that to a lump of right angle bent sheet metal with standardized slides,..well.......come on, it *is* kind of odd.

Yeah I think that price is ridiculous too. Who knows, it might sell for more than the guy paid for it. :lol_hitti

Good scope on that red toolbox, that thing is huge in itself.

Bwahahahaha....check out the receipt again. He paid $250 apiece for those nylon covers.

Think about it. 500 bucks worth of nylon fabric with a bit of silk screening.

I wonder if you couldn't get 600 bucks for the same thing on eBay.

It does look like he threw in that touch up paint for free though. My box didn't come with that.:bounce:

My tools are perfectly happy in fine Yawman & Erby file cabinets that were made for IBM cards. Never yet heard any complaining from any tool about bein there.

I have owned Snap-On boxes, and I have rolled them all over the shop on a daily basis.

Something like that box, however, is definitely approaching the "immovable" status. Too big.

Now that I don't need to move my box from bay to bay, I am seriously considering Lista or Vidmar storage. A lot more bang for the buck.

haha... I just don't get Snap-on toolbox pricing. What a rip. For that price, I would expect it to come fill with tools.

Yea, you can get about 2x that much storage with Lista...and customize it to any size you want.

For a speed shop a big box could be part of the whole dog and pony show for the customer.

I don't see any date on that invoice, but the sellers web site address sure is easy to read isn't it. ;) Could be some clever advertising.

My guess is $10,750.

rubbermade - making theft easier for the thieves

I admit that locking up stuff might be preferable for a public area, but it still seems to me that there is a big difference between the amount different tools are used, and they don't all need to be in some sort of EZ glide anti gravity uber-drawer.

You can argue that the guys at that shop need a Knaack jobsite box for things like pullers and big hammers, and to have a 1/2" combination wrench taped to their foreheads.

You know, that's probably right. How else can you get someone to dump 40 grand into a 1969 Pontiac LeMans or some other parts car?

Just for posterity, I am taking the liberty to post the pic of the Ego Box - I mean tool box. It drives me nuts to read a thread that references an E-Bay ad that has expired and the pic is no longer available, so I am doing my civic duty.

I have no comment on that box.

I think the shop got together with the local Snap guy and said, whats the biggest box we can get?

Big Empty Box, or for two or more people to put stuff in maybe.

The StanleyVidmar plant is very close to where I live. I know 2 people who work there. I have seen a few Vidmar storage units, like other things they do come in some different price points, but, they "good" ones are very nice.
And American made

I don't get it....So they took two different style boxes and bolted them together? Then put a huge price tag on it? I would be impressed if it looked like a giant one piece unit. The keys are pretty sweet, though.

Good heavens! I could sell my apartment and live in that box...
Given the real-estate prices here, that might not be so daft! A new kind of mobile home, maybe?
(That box, empty, is massively heavier than my car!)

That thing is longer than most of our cars...

12 feet... and I've waffled on buying a new, larger box mainly because I worry about fitting a 40" long box in the garage... :headscrat

The main box IS one piece. Its just the risers on top that only come in 6' length units.

All snap on boxes, made in the last 10 years or so, have those "wrench" keys.

For $15,000 more you can buy a tow motor to move it around the shop. For $35,000 a Snap On tow motor.

What might be fun is a car trailer, painted to look like a giant SnapOn box.

Or maybe just do one wall of your garage with a trompe l'oeil of a giant box, or endless bays and lifts. ;)

shhhh -- Word is HF is working on an even larger box. Store all your tools, impress your friends, and use it as a camper; all at the same time.

For a grand, tops.

Which you can argue is about what 1000 lbs of sheet metal is really worth.
