Well not new but new to me. I found this old beauty buried in an old warehouse . I`ll be picking it up soon but today I grabbed all the loose bits. Whilst scrounging in the dark I found this neat old cabinet and low and behold a massive collection of Rivett collets for the machine.
The Lathe is in good shape with no ridges on the ways and it`s mostly complete and was originally bought by the USAF.
We`ll see how it goes when I get it home.

The 1020s is a nice find Jabber. Never seen that large a set of collets in a box like that. Really cool stuff there. Quite a project to take on but worth it if your'e not missing too much on the lathe. Ed.

Is that a Monarch 10EE off to the right? Don't pass that one up if it's available, either, even if just for the resale.

You dog. I'd kill and help hide the body for something like that. :D

I hope you realize how rare and cool something like that is. And I hope you're planning to show us all the bolt-by-bolt restoration, so we can all live vicariously through you. :D

I must admit I like the patina on it. That being said I`ll be pulling each part and checking it out to make sure everything works first. Then I`ll see about making it pretty.
I should have the motor/drive system plate out this weekend.

That's the one thing I would definitely look into. I need to replace the bearings on the Reeve's drive in our Rockwell. They seem to be a neglected area. Out of sight, out of mind. Doubly so when you can't feel it getting bad because it's electronically driven.

Went back today and picked up the original book.
Has the color advertising brochure, factory engineering drawings and user guide.
Also got another Rivett book for an armature lathe in the original cover.
So I`ll be switching contents to have the original cover with my paperwork.

Got the coolant tank and pump assembly out, what a mess!!!!
Looks like I`m missing the screen assembly.

Now I`ve got to get a sparky over here and check all 3 motor to see if they`re ok.

Got another main motor brake today. Mine was missing the cover so TravisR100 from Practical Machinist sent me this complete working set up for the price of shipping. A very generous and appreciated act.

That was a nice Christmas spirit type jesture from Travis jabber. One of the advantages of posting online is the shared enthusiasm for the project as well as the possibility of coming up with nearly unobtainable parts. Good progress on your 1020s so far. Rivett built some damn nice machines. Ed.

How does the brake work? I know Kieth's sounded awful. Is it electric, mechanical, hydraulic?

Got the motor mount/ drive plate cleaned.
Effed up thou I used super clean and forgot how strong it is . I made the mistake of wiping the red adjustment tag when it had super clean on it and it took of a bit of the printing before I realized it. Damn it.]
Did get the back gear leaver working thou it was a bit seized up.

Got the motor assembly back in after the sparky checked it all out, replaced the hokey power cord junction box and connected the cord directly to the machine and got a quickie freshen up of the coolant sump/pump assembly.
Sparkies coming back over and we`ll re connect everything and plug it in to do a run check with the drive belts not attached.

Fun read this thread. I love the way the motor assembly goes in and out of the base; smart.

Sparky came over for round 2 today, got it all wired up and plugged it in....nothing.
Turns out so far 2 of these smaller fuses are bad and a transformer was wired up wrong.
Tomorrow new fuses and hit it again

Nice wiring, always good to see it hasn't been rewired by someone who doesn't know what they are doing, more often than not with old machinery the wiring is a mess I find.

I see the board there. did you set 2x4's between the base casting and the motor/drive assembly to slide it on or just to get it off the mounting bolts and slid on the base casting itself?

thanks

jeff.
