Well I took the day off work yesterday and helped out with the build.
We got the walls all up and most of the sheeting done. Now we have to wait on the trusses 2 to 3 more weeks...aarrrggggg...
That gives me time to button up the rest of the sheeting on all but the back wall. Put the second top plate on the rest of the wall and get the driveway ready...

The code in BC is silly. I've had to nail up so many of those I use a strapshot or palm nailer depending on code on the nail. When the big one hits, these straps and wedge anchors will be worthless. One engineer told me they're only to last until you get out of the house.

Booked my truss crew tentatively for june 6th waiting on the truss company to confirm. With changes to the roof pitch to 8/12 the price went up by $500 but it gives me a loft room that will be 13ft wide and 7 ft 8 inch high... This will be on the front 20 feet of trusses and the remaining 17 feet will be scissor truss. I'm thinking at the end of the attic trusses to put a glass railing so you can look down from the loft "man cave" over the rest of the shop. Anyone see a problem with this???

Those are some tall walls. I would probably put a big screen tv up on the back wall, set up a couch on the mezzanine.

I have my shop designed with 1/2 scissor and 1/2 attic truss. Its not built yet but I had the same thoughts that it would be cool to look down over a railing onto the rest of the shop.

The framers are my truss crew... Me and 3 of my buddies... Well the 2 guys in all the pictures are my buddies, retired firefighters... The extra guy I have coming is another fire fighter friend of mine. They work hard and only drink all my beer when they are done for the day...

Been a little while since I put anything new up... That's because there isn’t anything new to report just waiting on the trusses. I did finish up nailing the hell out of the sheeting and put up the temporary scaffolding and got all the top plates finished...
Did I mention I hate waiting...lol...

OK there was some things to get done got all the sheeting done that could be done. Seeing as how my loft area counts as a second story we had to nail the **** out of all the sheeting g at any seam every 3 inches at any opening the same and all along the bottom...
Thank goodness for my air nailer... 6 inches on every stud. Went through a whole box of nails... One more week till trusses..
Reminds me of a guns and roses song...lol...

Well that was a busy day...
Going fine till the last few trusses and the forklift we were using as a man lift got stuck...
I know who uses a forklift for that on gravel...
well seeing as I get them for free I do...
so here are some pictures...

After they were all up we got them all secured and safe for any wind that might come up...


Then I took down all the temporary scaffolding and pulled all the nails...
tomorrow we start sheeting the roof. Next week the roofers come. He's the only none firefighter in the build but his dad was so we will go with that connection...lol...
Really liking the look of the truss configuration. Lots of room in the loft area...

Thanks Ajustable It's been a good build so far a lot of things coming in under budget a few over...
Got home from work today to half the roof sheeted and a very tired friend. I'm going to look into taking most of the day off tomorrow to get the rest of the roof sheeted... The roofers come next week and the rain is supposed to start on Thursday Don't think I want them up there when it's wet...

Roofers are suppose to be here Monday and figure it will be done in a day.
We loose the forklift on Tuesday so we will be tying up some loose ends today in the trusses. My plumber is coming by to rough in the washroom and sink...

No LordD, it's a 2x10 with a 1x4 at the top rough finish primed ready for paint glued and nailed in place...
Unless your talking about the forklift in which case yes it's metal...lol..

For today's we finished up alot of the high work because we loose the forklift Monday...
Got the f__^ing stuck again just after my buddy left for the day man that flat ground is so hard to get around on... So I brought my explorer around and pulled it out... a good excuse to park it in front of the shop for a photo...lol...
So now I'm just sitting in my shop having a beer listening to tunes... life is great...

Shouldn't that last truss have been a gabel end truss instead of an attic truss? How are you going to nail off the sheathing? Nice looking attic / storage space, though!

Thanks Laurie, the end truss is different than the rest of the attic trusses it has the 4 uprights on either end and it's 2 inches shorter than the others. I have to finish the open area for window size and what ever... It will be framed out in 2x6 for the added insulation. When I ordered the trusses we were not sure of the window sizing either...

Not too much in the shop today but my buddy in Calgary texted me that home Depot had 3/4 inch maple plywood on for $30 (canadian) so I went out and picked up 7 sheets... had to go to 2 stores to find them tho..
Can you say hello to my new soon to be work bench tops...lol...

Got the windows in and the plumbing roughed in and most of the sub floor in in the loft today...

OK we got the front wall closed in and the window i s in... All the loose bits of sheeting are complete.
The rough in for plumbing is ready for inspection and then the final back filling can be done and pour the slab...

Went to the city and applied for a plumbing permit the other day (its over and above the building permit and I wasn't sure I was going to add it at the time). Got the OK today and they are doing the inspection on Monday...
Got the top half of the stairs in and a wall beside them...

You built it big enough for a lift. Is that in the plans? I have similar attic truss/scissor truss plans except it will be storage only, and the walls will be 10 feet tall. I will have an in floor scissor lift in the tall section. Great work so far.

Thanks camaro, yes I will be putting in a 2 post on the right side, near the back... The 12 foot walls are huge and the scissor trusses make it even bigger lots of room for lifting even the tallest vehicles...
If you can do the height go with the 8/12 pitch the loft area was only ever to be storage but now that it's done I have my man cave... lots of room up there...

I just went back and scanned all your pictures so far, looking for a stairway. One picture shows a fairly large hole, in roughly the center of the garage. Is that it? If it is, I'm guessing that you'll be using a pull down stairway. After more scanning, I noticed your comment about the stairway wall. If that doorway is what looks like 10 feet tall. I suppose the stairway wouldn't intrude into the garage area too much. You would just bring the really tall stuff in on the other side.

Hey camaro, the stairs will not be pull down stairs as the loft will be my man cave. I'll post up some more pictures of it...
My builder / friend is on vacation this coming week and then he is on his week on at his regular job so we are kind of on hold for 2 more weeks.
I have a **** load of things to get done to get ready for the slab poor. I'm about level now and just have to go get the plate tamper and make it even firmer. Then it's polly and rebar time. I dug out the area where my 2 post hoist will be an extra 4 inches down and the wall in the office now has to have a make shift footing installed so I had to dig that down 8 inches ( damn engineers wish they would just stick to driving trains)...lol...
Got the over kill trenches dug out for my services and the water line is run waiting on a hole in the crawl space wall of the house to be cut out.

Been a little while since my last post not too much has happened I did get the sewer line run and inspected and covered up... The water line is run and inspected and covered... And the power is run. Today have to pick up conduit for the cable and security...
