So I finally received a permit to start construction on my new shop. It will be a stand alone 40x60X14 metal building on a slab. Now that I have a permit and contractors lined up, the rains came calling and we had a deluge of 17+ inches over a 48 hour period. Needless to say the building site was under water and construction won't start anytime soon.

The good news is that the plans call for bringing in about 55 loads of select fill to build a pad for the 5" of concrete slab we've engineered for this project. That puts the finished floor height at about 8 inches above the highest watermarks on the property. Of course the bad news is that it's costing me an extra $10k+ for the dirt work.

I'll post more pictures and details as things develop, but I don't expect to see any progress for the next 30-45 days until things dry out a bit.

Thanks

John

Good that you had the timely event to find the high water mark. It would be a bad day to have your shop go underwater (even partially).

Neighbors have been here 16 years and have never seen water that high and the local news are calling it a 500 year flood event, so I'm hopeful we'll never see it again. That being said, the shop floor will be the highest elevation on the property. Here's a shot of my Generator, note that it is sitting on a 36 inch high concrete pad that matches the elevation of the existing garage\house:

Thats crazy. More like a 1,000 year flood. Chance of you ever seeing that much water again is pretty much 0%.

And we finally dried out enough to put the bulldozer to work this week, however, after the 10th dump got stuck, they called off the dirt haulers for the day. Hope to get them back on Monday to finish building the pad site with concrete to follow.
