Oh the avatar... That's my wife. Drives me crazy when she pulls her knees up like that and gives me that look. Anyway, She said I was spending too much time on the computer so she gave me that pic as an avatar and said every time someone asks about it I would think about her. You know, this thread just reminded me of something... be back on later:)

Hey John can you take some measurements and pictures of the top of your box under your lid? Maybe have your wife stand beside the box?

I was looking at those socket rails at Sears today. They were branded Craftsman and were $19.99 each (BOHICA). You've got nearly $500 worth of socket rails there...:shocking:

Those are Lock-A-Socket rails made by Mechanic's Time Savers. You can find them online on sale for as little as $12 ea shipped. I like them a lot.

I do a fair amount of automotive work. I've gone through a variety of socket holders in my stand up tool box and nothing ever solved the issue of a lot of my work being on my back or crouched down (sitting on a short stool or something) so I always found it a hassle to get up and go to the tool box.

How does everyone else get by this? If I had a 2 post lift, then most of my work would be on my feet and it would not be as much of an issue.

Here are a couple of different style socket holders I used in the past.

One of the problems with this socket holder below is that you often don't have a couple of the sockets (like a 16mm for example) so that hole is always going to be empty (looks bad).

IONH,

I use a Matco socket tray and it might be just what you are looking for. All the sockets lock in so even if you knock the whole tray over you won't be picking up sockets. They are available in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, and a mixed set. The handles make it a snap to carry around, I keep one with metric and the other with SAE of my most used sockets.

great looking tool-box. i am still sitting on the fence with the colours other than red on tool boxes. i have see a few Tech 1000's that are bright yellow and look horrible. S-O orange doesnt do anything except show up fingerprints. black shows up the dust, but this blue that i am seeing is growing on me, and the quality looks every bit as good as a truck box.

Whenever I mention getting a "real" tool chest to my wife, I get a look that is very different from the look John Galt is getting. Like IONH, I got tired of doing the get-out-from-under-and-get-a-tool routine, so this is what I did.

When I'm doing an extended under-the-car session, I pull this whole kit out of the drawer and I take it under the car. The kit is from Costco.

Thanks for the suggestion X1 Mike, I will consider that. However, I think I have a larger variety of sockets than would fit in a small tray like that.

Taking that idea, however, I might be best off with the second item I posted mounted to some kind of tray for portability.

You might want to hold off on the congrats, It looks like Joel 67 has thrown the :bs: flag on him. I think we are going to need a ruling from the judges on this one.

He's posted the exact same thing in the past and then admitted who it was. Not his wife.

I bought one of the 160 ish piece craftsman mechanic sets. Its all 6 point came with wrenches and sockets only. I use it when I am working under my truck or going to someones house. Only reason I bought it was cause of the case, I have at least double its contents in my box.

I got the same box last year and love it. The 20 inch depth is jus the ticket for a garage side wall. BTW, I have an old Snap On box that is 20 inch deep too. So even top tier boxes are available in this width.

I bought the same box in black from toolboxmart after reading this thread and seeing the box. I was all prepared to take off the billboard. Mine does not have it!!! So far I am very pleased.

How is this box holding up for you? Any rail issues, casters or? I would like Santa to bring me a blue set. Maybe post pics of my SO set up and you guys can tell me how little it is worth now?

Thanks, JASTECH

What is the difrence between Montezuma and Extreme Boxses?

Off topic, I had ordered a neat Montezuma box from Sears. Order ended up falling through because Sears had a top and bottom box pictured, neither grayed, but only the top box showed up.

No response ? Does no one have an answer or is no one reading this thread any more?

From another thread.

I was going to get the Montezuma but now getting the Extreme due to it being larger.

You went with the Extreme in the end, so it must have had some features on it you liked. Just wondering what you learned about the differences between them, if you wanted to share. Thanks!

My take on the differences is its mostly cosmetic - but when I 'm paying this much for a box and expect it to last the next 30 years for me that mattered.

No spot welds on the drawer fronts, Extreme's welds are on the side and there are gussets on the inside.

The drawer fronts are straight down on the Extreme - a little bevel out at the bottom from what I can tell from pictures on the Montezuma.

The gauge of the drawer fronts on the top box is heavier on the Extreme than the Montezuma.

The drawer pulls are solid aluminum on the Extreme vs an extension of the drawer front wrapped in aluminum on the Montezuma

A little higher gloss black on the Extreme.

From my research and talking with vendors - Both boxes are built in China - probably at the same plant and just built for different companies in the US.

Also found out the RXE Extreme is the same box as the Menards box - just a different color - black or blue vs green for the Menards boxes. it's not the box I got - but I did consider it - it's a good bit less expensive but a little less bling and lighter gauge metal in the drawers and sides and less drawers on top in exchange for the pull out work surface.

They are both great boxes I am sure - just spent another $160 to get the Extreme vs the same size combo from Montezuma for the cosmetic differences.

I got the box today, and pushing it off the pallet a little to mount the wheels worked great! No need to flip it on it's back. I did end up having a friend help me put the top box on instead of using the Cherry picker - let me just say though - Don't try this by hand without a few guys to help if your back isn't in good shape, its very heavy and a long lift. I used the plastic packing to cover the lower box sides at the top before we set it on there to make sure we didn't scratch anything up - then just lifted one end up and pulled that side's plastic out, then the same on the other side.

I'll post some pictures tomorrow - spent an hour or so moving some tools over from my old box to the new one tonight - i'm going to have to get some wrench holders to get it organized - my other ones are in the old box and adhesive back stuck to the drawer bottoms. Going to try to get some that are magnetic that will hold through the drawer liners.

Overall, very happy with the box and the service from Tool-Xpress - it's a nice piece and a good price. "

Hope that helps, as I was in the same thing wanting more information.

Can't wait to get my box and side cabinet from them shortly!

-Nigel
