I just picked up my new tool box. It is the version that has detents on all the drawers, so the plastic latches are coming off. I was debating between HF and Masterforce at Menards. I am very happy with my decision!

That is a beautiful box and will make it easy to find the right tools. Congrats.

That's a nice box and built pretty good. I like the bullnose bend at the bottom of each drawer. Those plastic latches really hinder the box. It's a good thing HF is moving away from them.

Really? I just bought a Series 2 56" top and bottom, both have plastic latches at the right of each drawer. My small 26" Series 2 bottom chest does not, but I don't think they ever came with them to begin with.

HF not moving away from the plastic latch, just one of the manufacturers for 56" and 72" use better slides with detents as well as the latch and latch screwed on rather than rivets

@OP . Does your top box have same detents slides as the bottom, can you confirm the stock codes as be useful for others looking at HF offerings ...

The main problem is putting the latch lever on the far right side. Why bother having a drawer handle that goes all the way across if you have to open the drawer from the far right side?

The correct SKU for the better bottom box with detents is 64164 and the top box is SKU number 64135. I verified that if you do not get the boxes with these part numbers, you will get the cheaper boxes that have no detents on the drawers.

One thing I noticed is that the side box is the correct height for a 44" box. It comes with bolts to secure the side box to the main cabinet, but it will not work with the 56" model. Should I not worry about bolting it down?

The new side boxes are about 3 inches thinner than the originals, they do look kind of skinny.

I was hoping they would have left them at their original width and simply added depth to them...however, they just cut the width down and stuck it on the backside.

I love the hf boxes.. i just wish they didn’t make the lockers more narrow like they did. I wish they also made a few more locker options or accessories.. one with half of it filled with deep drawers would be cool.. one with a pull out pegboard to hang power tools on woulda been nice also.. but hey, you cant complain about what youre getting for the money.
