New Age Cabinets, Bold or Pro

Anyone have the New Age cabinets in their garage? I just ordered the 12 piece Bold 3.0 from Costco. I’m reading the reviews and some people say to get the Pro version and some say the Bold are fine for a home garage.

The Pro version is more than twice as expensive.

Anyone here have any experience with them?

I've got the Pro version, they are made of substantially heavier gauge metal (18 gauge vs. 24 on the Bold).

The Bold version should be OK as long as you don't expect too much out of them, i.e. don't store anything too heavy.
They will dent easier, however. That may be an issue for some folks.

That being said, I spent months researching cabinets before I purchased my NewAge Pros. I bought my first set from them in 2016 and they were an amazing value at the time. I purchased my second set just last year and somehow they are even better, an amazing value compared to everything else I researched out there (most other comparable cabinet systems are anywhere from 80% to 140% more expensive). And I couldn't be happier.

The most common complaint I have heard has to do with damage incurred during shipping. I must be living right since BOTH of my cabinet shipments arrived damage-free, but I've read that NewAge is very good about making good on any damage. Both of my orders were through Costco, and that alone to me was always a good sign, as Costco (although not perfect) does tend to only merchandise better-quality products.

Mine are older and are a line no longer manufactured. However, they are the heavy-gauge metal of the pro, and that makes all the difference. If you can afford it, I'd highly recommend going for the heavier gauge metal. I love mine and the heaver metal makes them much more solid and moves them to another level from the kind of stuff you can buy at a big box store.

If I had price issues, I'd drop one cabinet from my planned set of thinner ones to get fewer of the pro-grade ones.

The Pro version is also larger dimensionally than the Bold. 6" deeper and 8" taller for floor standing style for instance. I've also had two sets of the Bold from Costco and will be adding a third shortly. They are a solid value.

I'd say I have a prosumer shop setup with one wall locker cabinet holding all of my pullers, ball join presses, hub tamer, etc. Probably several hundred pounds of tools and they are holding up just fine. They did get damaged in shipping, quite a bit of damage, but New Age made good and sent replacements. They work great. The only issue I have is the struts to hold the upper cabinet doors open are week now and don't hold all of the doors up. If I were to do it again, and I would if I needed to, I'd order upper cabinets with side by side doors and not the overhead door style.

I've got a mix of Pro and Bold - go with Pro. They are larger and if you look at price/square inch, they are about the same...but the Pros are built better.

Only reason I went with a couple Bold lockers is because they sit on a wall that has a man door and would protrude past the door opening, Bold depth fit perfect.

I've had bold in my garage for coming up on 3 years now. No issues at all. I like that they are shallower depth than the pro, also.

Thanks for all the replies. Well it’s about half for the Bold and half for the Pro. Ive cancelled my order and am gonna think on it for a while.
When I was younger I used to buy cheaper stuff and it always bit me in the ***.

My wife just said to get the Pro because she knows how I am. I hate that she knows that lol.

Pro quality is much higher. Bold will work for the home garage but if you have the coin, Pro's won't dissapoint.

I have 30’ of Pro and 7’ of Bold. I have the Bold only for its reduced depth that I need on one wall — 18” for Bold versus 24” for Pro. The Pro is much sturdier and higher quality.

Honestly, though, a HF US General tool chest is much sturdier than a Pro tool chest. There are also some lockers and cabinets from other companies, maybe Husky, that might be just as good as the Pro but cost less. There are posts here about them. If you mix and match, though, the colors may be off.

Pro gives you thicker gauge steel and the cabinets are taller and deeper. Pro is a good value for what you get.

Buy the cabinets that fit your stuff and don't ever think about it again. I have read more than a few times on here people saying "I bought the expensive tool chest and never regretted it".

I guess my thought would be that I have never been in the middle of a project and thought "man, this would be so much easier if only my tool drawers slid a little easier". Minimize expenses on tool holders, divert funds saved to toys and tools.

I'm really just a homeowner, who does a variety of projects, nothing too serious. It was hard enough to justify the $$ for the Bold cabinets. I think I would have lost support from the family if I stepped up to the Pro level.

FWIW, I am replacing the craptastic particle board cabinets that came with our used home. I won't miss that junk!

Any NewAge cabinet is better than nothing, but to be clear the Pro series is not just deeper, they are constructed out of a heavier gauge of metal. At least they used to be.

18 gauge welded for the Pro. Dramatic difference compared to Bold. I have over 30’ of Pro cabinets and 6.5’ of bold. Bought the Bold only because I needed 18” depth in that location instead of 24” and the color and style matched the Pro.

But if Bold will do all you need to do for as long as you need to do it, then it is fine. My Bold are lockers and have been fine for the light duty use they see.

That's certainly one way to look at it.

I also have a second set of the Pro cabinets, purchased in 2023.
So far so good with those, too, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled, just in case.

Just FYI, I had this issue as well, and NewAge no longer offers replacements. My cabinets look exactly like yours, but are the "performance series", which essentially means the thicker metal as I recall. I was able to find replacements here at Harfington. The specifics of the replacement are "7.87inch 100N/22Lbs Gas Struts Shocks Lift Supports Lid Supports Lid Stay Black RV Cabinet Lift Support".

They should be the same for you, but the mounting points for the thinner cabinets might be slightly different, so your mileage may vary...

And I agree, these types of overhead cabinets are the weak point of my set.
