Planning new cabinets for the garage, I have about 10' on 2 walls back to back, one side I'm planning to have cabinets and a sink, most likely a 42" sink and a 42' door cabinet and 2x42' wall cabinets, since I want to have some wall space. One the other side I'm having a hard time deciding between 4x28" drawer lowers or 3x42". Clearly seems like 3x42" would provide a bit more storage using 3 cabinets instead of 4, is this a no brainer and should I definitely go 42"? The only thing I think I would miss is not having a tall wall cabinet in 42", they only make those in 28". Would you say the tall wall cabinets are worth getting the 28"s instead of the 42"s?

The other thing is 5 vs 7 drawer, are the 7 drawer tall enough for power tools? Should I get a mix of both 5 and 7 drawer. Assuming I go 3x42" would you get 2x5 and 1x7 or 2x7 and 1x5 cabinets?

Appreciate your thoughts helping me making the decision...

Storage needs are quite personal, but I like my 42" 5 drawer base and wish I had room for another one. The back wall of my garage isn't a single straight line and has a small door to the crawl space, so I had to come up with a more creative layout.

Also, here is what the second drawer (from the top) looks like as far as tools. I wouldn't want a 7 drawer unless I had more small hand tools or hardware to store.

I had 6 of the 28” 5 drawer bases. I prefer wider since I can fit more of the same kind of tool. A want, not a need. So I bought 2 of the 42” on sale and like them and would recommend them. I stayed with 5 drawer but think in hindsight that 7 drawer would have fit my needs better. Depends on the size of the items you want to put in them. In my case, hand tools go in the 42” and hand tools are not that tall. My power tools fill up a 36” locker and spill over into another one. A 42” locker would have been better. I have 4 of the 36” lockers and 1 of the 42” but my parts bins are in the 42” wide locker.

Here are the measurements New Age sent me, they are the same for the 28 and 42 cabinets except the 42s 39.22 wide.
