New Age Pro cabinet question

New Age is having a "pre" black Friday sale so I'm considering jumping in on a set. There are two similar sets that would be a perfect fit physically but they have different prices/options. The first is this set:https://shopnewage.com/collections/...iece-cabinet-set-53235?variant=39515899429044

And the second is thi set:https://shopnewage.com/collections/...iece-cabinet-set-52052?variant=16014001635394

The difference is the first comes with two lower cabinets while the second comes with a lower cabinet, a lower set of drawers, and a workbench top.

The thing is, I can't quite account for the $650 difference in price. The difference between the tool cabinet and the other base cabinet is about $190 and adding the workbench top to the 6 piece set is about $215. Thats only about $400. Where does the extra $250 come from? Am I missing something? If not, opting for the cheaper set gives me about $465 to make my own workbench top which is enough for a really nice piece of steel.

Also, any feedback on the drawers in the pro series? Are they as heavy duty as toolbox drawers?

Thanks in advance.

It's the drawers vs cabinets and the stainless worktop on the 7 piece the 6 piece cheaper.one doesn't include a worksurface.

I have some of the older 2.0 series that you could get from home Depot. They are very nice

Yes, I accounted for the differences between drawers and cabinets and the inclusion of the worktop in my math. I'm still coming up with a gap however so I wanted to make sure I not missing something.

They have had a steady price increase on their stuff I've the past year. Not to mention the sale price puts them at full price a year ago. Been wanting a 42" cabinet and I'm kicking myself cause this time last year they were 499.

Home Depot used to sell their stuff with HEAVY discounts for the larger sets I paid 1700 for mine granted it's the thinner gauge bold 2.0 stuff they don't make anymore. But that price got me 4 lockers, 2 floor cabinets, 2 drawer cabinets, 6 overhead cabinets and 2 72" work tops. I felt.likeni got.my money's worth

That's what I'm worried about. This black Friday sale is purportedly 15% off and I don't know low much better I'm going to do in the near future. I'm also considering foregoing the two base cabinets in the middle and just putting a 56" US General toolbox in there for storage and as a base for a workbench. Then I just need wall cabinets and lockers which I may be able to find on sale more easily by themselves than a whole set.

I wouldn't expect anything made from steel to go down in price anytime in the near future, especially given the current inflation trends and upcoming proposed Federal legislation.

The pricing does seem odd. I bought the 9 piece Pro series in July for $2,450 (+tax).
As for the build quality it's really nice! Better than I was expecting. I did a lot of research on various systems before finally pulling the trigger. Happy with the result.

Anyone have any insight on pricing? Do they ever email coupon codes or anything? I’m struggling because the 8 piece pro set mentioned above ($2200 in June) is now $3k. That’s a pretty steep increase, but I can’t image prices dropping ever. Usually they only go one way.

Try Costco. The price difference may include lights, wheel kit. Mine came with checkerplate slat wall for fill between the 2 uprights. Also recommend the Pro over the Bold cabinets. Big price difference there but worth the additional.

I purchased my Pro cabinets (a la carte) from New Age and it cost about $3200 in July. It looks like the same pieces would be $3700 on the website today.

-Two 36" lockers (Needed to fit a certain width or I would have preferred larger)
-42" tool cabinet with five drawers, work top (Again, needed to fit my space, so one of the sets with a 28" tool cabinet wouldn't work)
-Three wall cabinets

I really like the drawers on my Pro Series tool cabinet, they are heavy duty and slide smoothly. I was able to free up much of the space in my old 27" tool chest and tool box which now sit left of the lockers.

The New Age 84" work bench on the left is not included in my cost totals, it was from last year and I don't recall the price.

Thanks for the data point. It looks like the "cyber week" sale they're having now has the same sets on sale for the same prices as when I first posted. It's just tough to know whether they will ever be lower again or if prices have just gone up like everyrhing else.

- PS, you have a very enviable garage. Very spatious, nicely finished, and relatively empty. I would kill for that much space!

You have to remember that steel prices are WAY up, so unless steel prices come way down you aren't gonna see those same prices again.

We sell Lista where I work and they have sent multiple price increase letters due to rising steel costs. One manufacturer has just added a steel surcharge to their list prices, currently at 15% additional. It goes up with the steel prices, when it hit 20% they added a 5% price increase and then dropped the surcharge back to 15%.

Thanks!

I really wanted a wide bank of cabinets like out of a magazine or New Age advertisement, but the back wall is odd with the posts, stairs, and duct work, so I had to get creative. Still not sure if I want more cabinets where the work bench table is located, but eventually I might. My goal is nothing stored over the cars or on the sides of the garage to get in the way of opening the car doors.

Since I have a back yard shed for garden tools and other junk, I have been able to stick to that. I like there are no support posts by the cars, and my favorite modification is the 8500 wall mounted openers to free up the ceiling.

I've been BBQ smoker shopping... My guess is prices on most consumer goods will not go down anytime soon. Finding things in stock will only get harder, so there's a risk waiting/hoping for prices to go down.

Before:

Electrical moved for openers, drywall repair, paint, floor, cabinets, lights.
(Future, maybe add base molding along the wall/floor.)

Pro is good. I have 29’ of it. Your back wall does make a clean install challenging. If the garage is deep enough, build a wall across the pillars and make the space behind a storage closet.

Yeah, right now the area behind the lockers is perfect for an open shelf and short ladders, etc. That half door is to my crawl space which needs clearance in case I ever need to replace HVAC or hot water stuff.

So I received my first shipment of three. Cabinets look great and I can’t wait to get the others. A few notes:

- Prices continue to increase and now with the Russia situation Id expect worse. The 7 piece set I originally bought that was just over $3k is now about $3.5k

- The pricing structure on the Newage website is a bit silly. You can get more by buying the cheapest preconfigured set possible and then backfilling with individual cabinets using the “bundle and save”. Reason being, most cabinets are discounted 35% using that feature. So for me, I actually cancelled my preconfigured set, ordered the 6 piece set without top, then ordered an additional 6 drawer lower cabinet, two uppers, and a corner upper. The cost was within $50 of the seven piece set but I basically got three extra cabinets. I did give up the top and a 2 drawer bottom over a 6 drawer, but that worked better for me because of how I want to set them up, plus I can get a better, thicker butcher block top locally.
