I want to say thanks to those of you who chose to help instead of criticize.:
.......
Some of you guys really blow things out of proportion.
I asked in my post if you understand why you need the double pole breaker not to criticize you, but to try and educate you. As I'm not totally convinced you really understand why you need the double pole breaker.

I really wouldn't say anyone blew anything out of proportion either. The mistake you made is something pretty basic (the motor says 230v right on it!), and could have resulted in damaging the compressor, while doing the reverse could have resulted in something blowing up or killing someone.

That whole box is wired wrong. Turn it off and get someone over to rewire it that know what they are doing. The only breaker that looks right is the double pole on the top left. The one under it is a duplex that is wired with a black and white to it-trying to make it a two pole 240 volt but its not. The grounds and neutral bars are both wired wrong and never should have blue and red wires on either neutral or blue. Either get someone over or get a good book on wiring and learn what you are doing, don't run anything at they are wired now.

Best answer.

well not really.

As it has been discovered that its a main service panel so neutral and grounds on same bar is fine, blue wire is actually green, the breaker with neutrals is a GFCI or AFCI, etc.

So the only thing wrong is the breaker for the compressor, red wire to neutral bar which is fixed with correct double pole breaker and potentially the SEU going underground.

Unless of course i missed something.

wyliesdiesels. Now that you pointed it out I jumped on lap top instead of iPhone and saw the neutral. Excellent catch. I was really a little concerned over my last 50 years of learning. Lol thx

wyliesdiesels. I also noticed the large terminal at the top of the RH neutral bar and quit looking. ARGHHH electrically with this panel as a main it probably makes no difference but esthetics wise I would have had a more warm cozy feeling if the braid had been connected there

hard to tell but looks like bare neutral may be under a larger neutral lug...

but yeah larger lugs piggy backed on the bar are the best place for larger feeder neutrals and grounds.

Kind of off topic but can a main panel like this have no main disconnect? If no disconnect is their not a rule on the number of breakers allowed? Thanks!!

Top left cb is a back-fed 2 pole 100a cb. It is the main disconnect for this panel. It should be labeled as such on the cover.

6 throws of hand is the maximum allowed for a service disconnecting means in lieu of 1 main cb.

Aside from all of the issues the OP was having with this panel, did anyone notice that there seems to be no screws/fasteners holding this panel to the wall? Call me blind, but I don't see any.

Super glue holds it on.

You guys are making a lot of assumptions based on a few small pictures.
The problem is fixed, get on with your lives.

I sed in earlier post - "Fixn took pretty good photos, that are multi zoomable, for me anyway..I guess stuff can show different on diff computers."

The pictures are not small, at least on my computer I can click on them more than once, each click increases the size.

For example the photo of the nameplate gets to about 110% of my entire monitor screen.

Plenty to see needed details, if one knows what to look for.

We're all glad to have helped you Fixn, NOW we are able to get on with our lives.

As you also can. Marc
